    Help with gunbroker purchase

Purchased a handgun off gunbroker. Seller is working with his out of state FFL to send the gun via ups to my FFL.

He’s apparently unable to ship because he can’t get the CA approval letter without a shipping invoice number, and ups won’t process/ship it without an approval letter/number.

I haven’t purchased out of state via a private party before. How do we make this happen? Thanks!

Edit: it is on the roster.

The out of state FFL is charging him to ship the gun, that would include an invoice, use that invoice number

We typically will use our dealer stock # for sending out a CFLC, or sometimes we use the gunbroker auction number. Regardless the "invoice" number is pretty irrelevant for purposes of the CFLC.

Ups knows nothing about the CFLC number so not sure why they require any invoice or anything.

Use the auction number as the invoice. The FFL should ship USPS as it is much cheaper or the seller can ship direct if your FFL allows it then the cflc isn't needed.

As said, UPS doesn't have a clue about the cflc letter.

Kind of sounds like the seller and his LGS have their lines crossed. Can you have the seller ship themselves and CFLC approval is not required? UPS does not require an invoice number or CFLC, so that’s a weird thing they said. Invoice number is just whatever the LGS wants to make up, it has no meaning to anyone other than the person who created the invoice.

              Where are you located??

There should be some basic bill of sale with it. Even your payment receipt, or gunbroker ad is usually sufficient. If not, the dealer will likely charge you MSRP or whatever they would sell the same item for since they are on the hook for collecting appropriate sales tax.

Are you not willing to provide the true and accurate information as to what was paid for a firearm to the FFL? If not, then the FFL shouldn't do the transfer. Yes, the FFL could guess high, but then the state gets more money than they should, but my guess is that if it was higher than you paid that you would complain.

Started the DROS on gun in question today. I did relate the correct purchase price to the FFL; despite my objection to the state requirement of collecting tax on this kind of transaction.

                        Thanks for the help guys!
