    2019 Ammunition Regulations

Has anyone heard anything about processes regarding the new Ammunition Purchase regulations going into effect after July 1, 2019?

I've heard rumors of a new website that is liked to AFS for the POS of sale background check verification, and something that you can't buy ammo for a caliber that you don't currently own, ...

Anyone else have anything more substantial?

Edit: It looks like recent OAL Rule Making publication indicate that this is going to be added functionality to DES.

I have an idea but nothing is Dave. Supposed to be a DES style thing.

My buddy just told me his sheriff friend said only 50 rounds per purchase after 1/1/2-19. Another door rattler that should spend more time on books then on knees. Do not believe without verification anything a leo says about ammo or firearms laws.

As far as I understand, you just have to have a firearm in the registry to buy ammo. And a valid FSC. I've heard nothing about it being linked to a certain firearm.

I've got wonder how that would work with people buying .38 special for the .357 or .22 shorts for a .22 LR bolt gun/revolver....

There are not yet any approved regulations.

Last week, 12/7, CADOJ published a notice of proposed rule making, https://oag.ca.gov/sites/all/files/a...ing-120718.pdf,
          PUBLIC HEARING
The Department has not scheduled a public hearing on this proposed regulatory action. However, the Department will hold a hearing if it receives a written request for a public hearing from any interested person, or his or her authorized representative, no later than 15 days before the close of the written comment period.
          WRITTEN COMMENT PERIOD
Any interested person, or his or her authorized representative, may submit written comments relevant to the proposed regulatory action. The written comment period closes at 5:00 p.m. on January 23, 2019. Only comments received by the Department by that time will be considered.

Ammunition vendors will be required to use the DES to process ammunition purchases, sales and transfers commencing July 1, 2019 as prescribed by Penal Code sections 30352 and 30370.
Content of proposed regs is at https://oag.ca.gov/firearms/regs; they're not very expansive on the details of how DES will present ammo buy screens.

Frozen in 2015, it is falling out of date and I can no longer edit the content. But much of it is still good!

As to this, no, not true.

See the Ammunition sticky in the How CA Laws ... forum.
