    FFL Copy For Internet Transfer

So far my internet transfers have mostly been from other FFLs. I have done a few where the seller was a private party. In those cases I send them a link to the ATF e-verify web page and give them the appropriate numbers from my licence to verify I have a legit FFL.

Is that how you other FFLs do it? Is it a hard and fast rule we can't send a copy of our license? I have not had anyone balk at not getting a copy but I figure it will happen someday.

ATF has said they do not want out license copy being sent to non-FFL's so I don't. If a non FFL will not ship to me because the ATF ez check is not good enough that is their choice.

Purty Much.... That's our policy as well. Its that damn gunbroker thing where it says the seller MUST get a copy of the FFL, and even though the ATF bulletin is out GB still keeps it up there. I've had people who are "regular" GB Sellers, (to my reply is if you are regularly buying and selling firearms you probably are acting as a dealer without an FFL, but I digress) argue with me about this policy before, at that point my reply is, you know I don't have to accept this firearm from you as a non dealer then right? You can either agree that the EZ check is sufficient or you can chose a local FFL to ship it to me. Your pick.

I talked to GB about it. They said that unless a BATF attorney writes them a personal letter saying that a non-FFL does not need a copy, they are going to keep their lies up. It doesn't matter that the BATF newsletter says otherwise or what anyone says.

I'm curious Kem, is there anything in the US code saying that even FFL's must get copies of another FFL's license? I don't think so, our ATF agent indicated that we can accept firearms from whomever. I've accepted firearms from estate sales out of state where they provided me with a copy of their city business license and that's how it was logged in. ATF Said that they would rather the firearms get shipped to us and logged into a dealers book than just floating around out there in limbo.

Yes, it is required for a FFL to get a copy of the FFL who they are sending to, unless the firearm has been at the FFL before.

There is no requirement to get a copy of the FFL for who sends you a firearm.

I don't ship many firearms, I guess I was thinking along the line of receiving a firearm.
