I have a California Driver's license which is not current because I moved. It was updated with the DMV in the DMV computer.

I also have a current passport ID card, but it has no address.

I have updated my car registration which does have my correct address.

I also have a BSIS FQ card with a current address.

Can I purchase, or do I have to set an appointment with the DMV first?

(I have been avoiding, because work is too busy during the week, and I hate going to the DMV.)

If your CA DL/ID doesn't have your current residence address, then you need a government document with your current residence address. Vehicle registration works.

Check with the FFL that you plan to use as some make things up and require additional documents when it isn't needed.

The BSIS with current address should be fine for state and fed requirements but check with your particular FFL.

Make an appt. with the DMV, it makes it a lot easier.

I will get to the DMV eventually. But I also have to stop at social security to get a replacement SS card.

On the DMV website, there were alternate forms for proving SS# such as a W2 that contains your SS#.

Make an appt. with the DMV, it makes it a lot easier.

Nothing is easy at the DMV. That entire department needs to be outsourced and the slackjaw staff put out to pasture.

I don't see a location in your post, but, if you're in the lower area of the bay (whether it be east/west/south) I would highly recommend the San Jose Driver's License Processing Center. They only do DL's. If you show up around 6-30 or so there isn't anybody there, and when I went in april, they even took a bunch of us in early. Was in around 730 and out at 745ish
