Can a parent (AZ resident) gift a handgun to their 18 yr old kid (CA resident)?

I know typically 18 year olds can't have handguns, but within CA parent->18yr child is ok.

However, when AZ->CA is that still ok? THis page has me confused:

The ATF site you posted seems to imply, "no" except for the fact that there are exceptions and they don't list them. This is not a person to person transfer though since it is a dealer transaction.

Since CA forces it to do through a dealer, due to ATF transfer laws, i think we are not allowed to deliver a handgun to anyone under 21.

As said, since it has to go through a dealer, a handgun can't be transferred to someone under 21.

If it was within CA, then a parent can give a child over 18 a handgun, but both have to be CA residents to avoid Federal law requiring it to go through a dealer, which is a problem if the person receiving it isn't 21.

Thanks, that's what I thought, but wasn't sure if I was missing something.
