Transferring an Unregistered non-C&R Handgun

I have a client who has a handgun he brought with him when he moved to CA. He did not register it when he moved here. He now wants to sell it. It is not on the Roster.

What are his options?

Can he still sell it as a PPT? Does that expose him to unwanted attention?

If he sells it out of state via an online auction, I assume as an FFL I can take possession for him and then mail to the buyer?

Registration is not a required attribute; in your client's case, he should have registered, but that's a different discussion.

Since registration is not required, he can sell the gun PPT with no issues on that score.

And for that matter, being off roster, it will probably demand a bit of a CA premium, so he may be better off keeping it in the state anyways.

So, am I correct to understand that if I "posses" a handgun, then I legally "own" it; Weather or not it is "registered" to me, or in my name; And I can then legally sell it as well, as my own, without problem?

Yes you can sell it using ftf private party at ffl.
