Idaho to California and back

Hi All,
I am an Idahoan who would like to transfer one of my handguns to my father, a Californian. My father also has a handgun he would like to transfer to me. If I understand this correctly, he would have to come to an FFL in ID to make the transfer to me while I would have to go to an FFL in CA to make the transfer to him. Is that correct?

What if the handgun I have, a Ruger Mk IV, is not on the CA approved handgun roster? Can I still transfer it to him or would that not be allowed?

He is your father, you guys can mail the guns to an ffl in the target state no problem. It's called an intrafamilial transfer, we do these all the time.

Are there any further requirements for intrafamlial transfers? I've heard people say one must have owned a firearm for quite a while before they're allowed to transfer it?

No further requirements, father grandfather mother grandmother can gift to son or grandson daughter or granddaughter. Everything is about intent as long as it's just a gift everything's fine

The gift issue is in regards to filling out a 4473 and who the firearm is intended for. I don't recall any CA issues regarding that aspect.
