    Belt Fed Weapon

I have a friend/client who wants to sell his 1919. I'm trying to figure out if its an AW, which if it is, he'd need a FFL with a dangerous weapon permit. Semi-auto with a pistol grip is what has me concerned.

Legality seems to come down to a few issues:

    1. Is a belt (10 round only) considered a detachable magazine? I would think the answer is no.

    2. Is it a rifle? Its not fired from the shoulder so I'd say no.

    3. I think its considered a crew fed weapon, but I don't know where to look in the penal code for that definition, or if being crew fed exempts it from AW consideration.

    4. If the pistol grip triggers the AW designation, can he change to the two handle grip to avoid that?

    I'd appreciate your thoughts.

I have one and enjoy shooting it very much. It is absolutely not an assault weapon as the pistol grip is above the action as you pointed out period with 10 round belts you are perfectly legal. However understand it's a much different animal than a standard AR. Much more to get involved with in terms of operation in field stripping you'll go through ammunition like nothing before. Be sure to check in on the 19 1984. Com web forum for all the information on maintenance calibration and safety concerns or PM me

Dismissing my lack of clairvoyance I must ask, a "1919" what...???

I think the stock makes it a rifle, regardless of whether or not you would actually fire it from the shoulder. Converting to the two handle grip should alleviate a few issues. I believe 10 round links are considered detachable ammunition feeding device, but I may be very wrong on that... My understanding is that if you go to the two handle, it becomes an other?

EDIT: Pistol grip like this? No problem if that's the case

Yes, that is the pistol grip I was referring to.

Sorry I wasn't clear on the weapon. It is the one shown by Waygeekerthanu.

No stock = not a rifle
Not a rifle = can't be an assault rifle
Can't be a shotgun, can't be a pistol unless the barrel is under 16"

Find a dealer that knows what their doing for transfer (the really hard part anymore) I know Riflegear recently transferred a Maxim for my buddy.

This has been beaten to death haha look up some of my older posts for PC clarification.

Yes, the 1919a4 is shown above. (no stock). The 1919a6 had the stock and forward carrying handle. If what you are considering is the a4 you are perfectly fine (assuming you head my warnings about not being a "regular" pull it out and shoot rifle.)

1919's weigh over 40 pounds without the tripod. They MUST be properly headspaced to the ammo you are using, AND you must understand that they are finicky. They are 60+ year old rebuilt guns rebuilt in many cases by small shops or guys in their garage. They also have a mainspring in the back of the bolt with enough power to seriously injure you in the event the spring is uncontrollably released.

In order to better enjoy your 1919a4 you will need:
1: a tripod and pintle. (show above) or even better an AA tripod so you can stand and shoot
              2. disintegrating ammo links ( which may or may not be sold to you from out of state as they may be considered "hi cap magazine kits")
              3. A plate linker to link your ammo
              4. ammo cans to store your ammo
              5. A base shop manual for the gun so you can disassemble it and trouble shoot.
              6. more ammo than you will ever have money to buy as they gulp it like air when properly running. (I usually go through 600-1000 rounds every time I take it out)

Also the pistol grip does not protrude beneath the action on a 1919
