    Transferring Ammo

    Hey FFL's,

What is the minimum required to have a 3rd party order ammo to your address and for you to transfer it to them?

I just sent off my 03+COE paperwork and a buddy was asking if I can do that for him for duck season?

A C&R FFL is not for a business. You are asking for trouble as you can't transfer it to others.

I have my FFL03 and COE. A word of advice, do not go around advertising this to all of your buddies unless you also have a strong backbone and can say no.

I suggest you go back to the ATF website and reread what the FFL03 really is. It is a personal collector's license and not a business license. In CA, it also provides some legal relief from stupid gun laws but still does not allow its holder to do everything that a FFL03 holder can do in a free state. I had to pick up my M1 Garand from a FFL01 that I purchased from an out of state FFL rather than have it sent to my door like I used to do before the change in laws.

There are some ammo vendors that will ship to me and others that will not because they do not want to deal with the extra paperwork. My gun range friends want me to buy ammo for them because no will will know. I take all the risks and they get all the benefits. The problem is, they tell their friends who then tell their friends, and eventually someone who is in law enforcement hears about it and you get screwed. All of a sudden, your friends want nothing to do with you.

Your buddy can get his own FFL03 and COE. If it is not worth the expense to him, then he can buy at his LGS like every one else. There is still time to stock up before the background checks start.
Anyone can look around and see the damage to the state and country inflicted by bad politicians.

A vote is clearly much more dangerous than a gun.

Why advocate restrictions on one right (voting) without comparable restrictions on another (self defense) (or, why not say 'Be a U.S. citizen' as the requirement for CCW)?

        Legally...

A CA resident with a valid 03-FFL & COE can have ammo shipped to their own address for personal use.

If that person wants to transfer ammo to a non-exempt person, then the transfer must be done through a CA DOJ licensed ammunition vendor (CA FFL dealer).

If that person transfers more than 500 rounds in 30 days, then they must be licensed as an ammunition vendor by CA DOJ.

There's one thing I haven't seen addressed so far. What if I wanted to give my son a box of ammo. Any restrictions there??

There is no benefit to this as you would still have to transfer it to your friend through a FFL dealer or CA licensed ammo vendor after you received it and could results in problems for you. Your friend may as well purchase it himself through an online vendor and have it shipped to his local FFL for pick up.

The CA ammunition laws applies to all transfers of ownership of the ammo.

There is an exemption for transfers between immediate family members and spouses/registered domestic partners.

Thanks for the info... Looks like we need to start supporting another class action law suit against another FUBAR law....if one isn't already in the works?? Don't forget to VOTE...
