Gun Buy Back / How to Process ??

Hypothetically:

You have some junky guns on the A&D books taken in as trade-ins or relinquishments. Some are not even rostered and therefore not sellable.

Along comes a "no questions asked" cash buy back run by the local officials and law enforcement.

Let's say a dealer wanted to dump the orphan, unwanted, etc. guns taking up room. Can this be done and how should the disposition be documented?

Here is how we dispose of pawn redemptions that are denials.

Logged out to -West Covina Police Department 1444 W. Garvey Ave, West Covina, CA 91790 and the name and badge number of the detective, or whoever we physically gave the gun to. Note Pawn Denial.

I would imagine your janky guns could be disposed of in a similar manner.

Take them to buyback get your target or ralphs cards and walk away. I took 14 in few years ago. Ravens, jennings misc sat nite specials from pawn that was closed 20 years ago. Got 1400 bucks in cards. I even had some frames not functional.

Why don't you get out your jigsaw, head to Home Depot buy some wood, cut it in the shape of a pistol, spray it black and take it down to the buyback and see if they will give you a gift card for that too. #gunbuybacksdontwork #neitherdohashtagsoncalguns

Buybacks sometimes will only be willing to take 1-2 guns for the gift cards don't expect to bring a pile and get a card for each one. I'm interested in buying the parts kits even on some of the junkier guns if reasonable price.

Everything but the serialized frame. Feel free to PM me. Also expect long lines at many buybacks. And some don't feel comfortable using them.

A few years ago I got $4200 at the San Jose Buyback and before that I got $2200 in East Palo Alto. They had no problem with the quanity at either buyback since it padded their numbers for the press release. I was even on the news in EPA. As for booking them out, I just logged them out the agency in charge of the buyback. I've been through two BATFE audits and they never questioned the disposition.

I've got about 30 ready to go to the San Mateo County buyback on May 5th, but I think I'm going to call ahead to the info line and make sure they are OK with a dealer bringing so many guns. their flyer has a bunch of fine print like "up to $100" and "we reserve the right to limit payout, regardless of quantity of guns turned in."

Many of the LA based ones say they will or actually do limit bringing too many. They'll take them but not give you more than 1 or a few cards. They don't come around all that often either and sometimes the lines can be huge.

LOL. Didn't Dillinger break out of jail that way..at least in a movie. He pointed a gun he made out of a bar of soap & shoe polish & made the deputy open the jail, then he locked the deputy in the jail & tossed the "gun" in.

I think there is debate on it. Was made of soap or wood I think was made to look kind of like a Colt 1903 32.
