Services for registered Assault Weapons in California?

    Hi,

I searched but couldn't find anything. I did a lot of calling this morning too with no luck.

Given everyone registering their AW's this last year, there will be many AWs that will need servicing in the future, including possible shipping to manufacturers for repairs.

Do we have any FFLs and Gunsmiths with the proper licenses that can work on these guns, and/or ship them for us?

    Thanks for your help!

    Well, ummm...

Any FFL can ship it for you, just find a gunsmith to fix it for you. Unless something is really weird in California law, it shouldn't be an issue if they were properly registered.

Or am I misunderstanding the question?

I believe the law is that for registered Assault Weapons, the FFL must have an Assault Weapons License to be able to work on it.

To ship, I believe the same holds true, and it must be shipped from a FFL with an AW License too.

Most people seem to say to just drive out of state and ship or work on it from there, but well, obviously that's not optimal, ha ha

Incorrect. I can not ship your AW without an AW license. Gunsmith in CA would need an AW license as well.

          Correct.

This is one of the hidden "zingers" buried in the new AW Registration laws.

AW FFLs are going to have lots of work in the near future.
Hopefully, more FFLs with gunsmiths will get AW licenses.

AW licenses aren't easy to get. You have to prove you already have contracts in place to sell to law enforcement or the movie production industry. Its not going to happen.

So is this correct from the DOJ website? Did something change that said only 09, 10 or 11 FFLs can apply for Dangerous Weapons Permit?

As of Nov 2017 looks like 34 9, 10, 11 FFLs in the entire state of CA!

              From DOJ Site:
Thank you for your interest in becoming a firearm dealer and/or ammunition vendor in California. Gun laws in California regulate the sale, possession, and use of firearms and ammunition in the state of California. The following will provide you with important information about the statutory requirements for becoming a firearm dealer and/or ammunition vendor, and other requirements for doing business in California.

Any dealers have insight to this?
Are there 01/07 FFLs only with DWP?

The way it's written it appears the applicant must have 9, 10 or 11 for any dangerous weapons permit, whether DD, AW, SBR, etc.

Are there 01/07 FFL with DWP for assault weapons?
