Shipping law question

I did a search but wasn't able to find an answer so here's the question -

I have a rifle that is subject to a recall. The manufacturer has told me that they will send me a shipping label so that I can to ship it to them and they will ship it back to me when the repair is completed.
My LGS told me that the rifle must be shipped by and then returned to an FFL. In this case who is right and if possible please post supporting law.

If you get the same rifle and s/n back, you can ship it direct, and they can ship it back direct. If they ship you a new gun, it must go to a FFL.

your LGS is incorrect.

for repair or any other lawful purpose may be returned to the person from whom received
without transferring the firearm through an FFL in the recipient’s State of residence
