I am thinking of getting a Sig P229 in .357 Sig and then buying a 9mm barrel from someone like Barstow. (Forget the technicalities such as the need for a different recoil spring and etcetera. It will work.) I wish to be able to CCW it in either configuration, but the IA will only permit it to be listed by the caliber in which it is in the system, which generally means under which it went through DROS. I have heard of changing the caliber in the system by using a pawn.

Can those of you familiar with this pawn method tel me if the same gun will still be registered under the old caliber as well as the new one. In other words, two P229 Sigs will be registered to me with the same serial number, but different calibers.

The DROS allows for additional calibers, but I don't know if that helps or not.

The DROS lets you select “firearm with interchangeable barrels” as the caliber and can be changed during the dros period or even after it has been delivered

Thanks. If it was origianlly dros'd as a .357, should I be able to pawn it and then redeem it and at the time of redemption have it dros'd "firearm with interchangeable barrels" for the caliber. If that can be done, I will check with the issuing agency to see if I can amend the ccw permit to list the caliber as interchangeable barrels.
