New CA FFL with First Major DROS SNAFU

Hi All,

I just became a home based FFL and have been doing online transfers for people primarily. I noticed that I had forgotten to click the "deliver gun button" in DES on the most recent customer I had but it was only a day after he actually picked up. To be safe, I searched all the DROS's that I have submitted and found one that I did not click "deliver gun" on and it has been over 30 days. I have the buyer's signature and thumb print on the pending and approved DROS form but forgot to click deliever. Am I going to jail? I imagine that I am not the first dealer, or employee of a dealer, to do this so I'm hoping I can just call the DES customer service line and get this resolved. Anybody have experience with this?

My first transaction, I let a LEO walk with his rifle. No letter. Got the gun back, and learned from my mistake.

Call the customer and have them in and sign and thump print the paperwork. It's a mistake.

You made a mistake it happens. You probably will have to redo the DROS and it probably will be a PITA for you and the customer. I would call the DES to plead your case but I'm sure they're going to tell you it has to be Re-DROSed.

DOJ will contact you and question you for not cancelling the DROS at the 30 day cut off in an email.

They will ask you what happened, did the gun get delivered and by whom.

We made the same mistake in our first couple months and you can contact DOJ and update your mistake and all will be fine. Being proactive after an honest mistake will not hurt you

(the customer never picked it up) and we got a call from the DES about 4 months after the fact asking if we delivered it or not and we said "no the customer never picked it up" and they said at that time even if he had picked it up we would have to RE-DROS it. But that wasn't the case so I didn't pursue it further.

We actually got an email and a letter. I responded to the email with all the information and it was all taken care of.

Now, that was 3 years ago so i don't know if the policy changed or not.

Ours was when the new DES first came about. We didn't know you had to cancel in the system if they didn't pick it up. This was before the bulletin went out about these things.

I get an email from DOJ every few months about undelivered DROS's normally its just re-dros'd or cancelled ones that were never cancelled in DES. In the form if its delivered but not in DES I just have to put the DES user name that delivered and date/time. They update DES in a few weeks.
