    FFL wants gun back

My friend bought a rifle from a chain store. He did all of the paperwork, waited the 10 days (13 actually) and picked the gun up. Today, 3 days after he picked his gun up the store called and they want him to bring the gun back and start the paper work and 10 day wait all over again.

Can any of you FFls speculate what might be going on and should my friend bring the gun back or tell them to pound sand?

Thanks in advance for your help.

I would say that they need to explain why. If they refuse, he could ask them if they would like to explain to the BATF and CA DOJ.

He should have a copy of the DROS, check the info on it, serial number, etc. Make sure it says it was delivered.

The dealer most likely made an error on the DROS. Could have been as simple as marking a used gun as new. They were probably told by the DOJ to get the gun back and re-run the DROS.

FFL more likely made mistake on paperwork somewhere.

Take gun in, have them explain, be cool ... maybe you get a free box of ammo or something.

        These things ... they happen.

Oh and oh ya ... one more thing

Make sure you don't have to pay for their mistake ... but be cool about it. You will be fine.

Thanks for the replies/advice. He's going to talk to the store today and I will post up the outcome.

Also, depending on the error the FFL can make the correction in the DES system without having to re-run the paperwork. For example, if it's just the SN that can be corrected without having to re-do all the paperwork/wait.

Anybody think to check their DROS paperwork to see what mistake could have possibly been made?

Re-DROS'ing means they ****ed up 2 things on the gun, or something in the personal information.

I looked the DROS over before he took the gun back. They had checked the "used" box on the form but it was a new gun. One other thing that caught my eye but maybe was OK was they listed his ID as "CA ID card" instead of CDL.
Anyway, they offered him 2 boxes of .22 which he declined so they ended up giving him a BSA Sweet 22 scope. I thought that was pretty generous.

Thanks for the replies and info.

A wanker outs the screws to an FFL for making a simple mistake. May he be treated in kind.

It cost the customer time and money. It seems like multiple mistakes, which then is no longer a mistake, but negligence.
