Actually, I'm just going to call/email the SM County Sheriff's office and find out who I address it to.

    Thanks!

      Sheriff Carlos Bolanos
      400 County Center
      Redwood City, CA 94063

If your town / city has a Chief of Police, suppose you could use that, too (my city uses the county sheriff for policing.

What CITY / TOWN do you live in ?

If you live in a city/town that has its own police dep it would be that chief.

If you live in a city/town that is under the San Mateo County's Sheriff's control then it would be the Sheriff Carlos Bolanos

            Continuing this question.

Instructions indicate: "PartA, item 20d requires certification that a completed copy of the application as been sent"

Does that mean, a copy of the USPS certified mail receipt would suffice? Or, do I need some type of document from the CLEO stating that they have rec'd a copy of my 03FFL application?

Application does not seem to clarify what sufficient certification of a completed copy of the application would be....

            Thanks again!

I suppose I could literally walk it into the Sheriff's office, have them stamp it as rec'd, and then ask for a copy....

Wondering how you all satisfied this requirement? Thanks!

You are certifying by filing your application (having initialed the box next to 20(d) and submitting your application under penalty of perjury).

Put another way, in initialing the box at 20(d) you are acknowledging that you've sent (in the words of the form "mailed or delivered") a copy to CLEO. No certified mail; no receipts; no stamped form from local law enforcement -- just the honest, straightforward truth that you sent a copy of your application to your CLEO.

In case it's not clear - send a copy to your CLEO, so you have the honest, straightforward truth on your side! The BATFE .pdf even includes a copy (without CC info) to be used for doing so.

Don't falsely certify. But don't also believe that you need some sort of record from your CLEO that he/she received it. You're an honest, upstanding citizen - send a copy to CLEO as you are submitting your BATFE application; having done so, and having initialed 20(d), you have certified as required.

ONE QUICK follow up question, got my Live Scan done today.

About to mail in this COE application. The $22 fee is only for, RENEWALS correct?

New applicants just mail in the paperwork in?

                      Thanks in advance!!

I'm pretty sure for NEW APPLICANTS it's just the app. I'm over thinking things:

                        New Application Form Submission Requirements:
Complete the COE Application form. Be sure to include your Live Scan ATI number. Only one application per form. For
more than one application per firearms dealership, each individual must complete a separate application form and submit
fingerprint impresssions via Live Scan to DOJ and FBI. Check the appropriate business type box(es). If your business
type is not listed, check the 'Other' box and indicate the type of business on the line below. If you are applying for a COE
as an employee of a California Firearms Dealer, you must provide the name of the dealership and the dealership's
California Firearms Dealer (CFD) number. You must date and sign the certification.

Mail your completed COE Application to:
                        DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE
                        BUREAU OF FIREARMS
                        FIREARMS LICENSE AND PERMITS SECTION-EFP
                        P.O. BOX 160367
                        SACRAMENTO, CA 95816-0367

                        Renewal Applicants
Fingerprint submissions are not required for annual renewal applications. Complete the COE application, being sure to
include your COE number and expiration date. check the appropriate business type box(es). If your business type is not
listed, check the 'Other' box and indicate the type of business on the line below. If you are applying for a COE as an
employee of a California Firearms Dealer, you must provide the name of the dealership and the dealership's California
Firearms Dealer (CFD) number. You must date and sign the certification.

Mail your completed COE Application along with the $22.00 COE Annual Renewal Fee to the address listed below.
                        DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE
                        BUREAU OF FIREARMS
                        FIREARMS LICENSE AND PERMITS SECTION-EFP
                        P.O. BOX 160367
                        SACRAMENTO, CA 95816-0367
It is recommended that you retain a copy of your completed COE Application form and your Request for Live Scan Service
                        form for your records
