Where's the media when you need them? Seriously? Where is CNN when somebody orders a firearm online, comes into the store and tries to just offer us cash to not do the paperwork on his gun transfer and just leave today with his gun? Obviously, this was a no go and we have told him he's done and now he needs to make arrangements with his online vendor and get us a return shipping label so the firearm can go back. Its stuff like this that would destroy the left's anti-gun narrative, that goes unseen and unheard of. Wish we could have filmed this whole dialogue between us and him and put it on YouTube for Mom's Demand Action and the Brady Bunch to see. Ugh........

Side Note Edit- Upon leaving the customer questioned my sexual orientation in a derogatory manner. I thought we were past these sort of insults in 2017. I guess everybody didn't get the memo.....

I think I would be contacting the local law enforcement with this guys info. His reason to by pass paperwork may me he is a prohibited person. or it could have been a law enforcement test.
If your lucky,it was some media reporter trying to show how easy it was to get a firearm. and his "story" will backfire on him.

I wouldn't sent it to a CA FFL as you are a CA retailer and since it would be coming from you, you could and likely would be considered the CA retailer, so you would be responsible for ALL of the sales tax including what the FFL transfer dealer charges, plus the firearm would also trace back through you.

Well since he's not going to complete paperwork at any CA dealer it could be a way for a lot of so cal dealers to make free shipping/storage/handling charges from him At some point he'll be more into the gun in fees then if he returned it to Sportsmans Guide.

you can also notify Sportsmans Guide that he's trying to complete illegal transfers and they may choose to blackball him to not be associated with someone trying to do something illegal.

As I see it, the guys committed a felony, to wit:

Penal Code 459, California law defines "burglary" as entering any residential or commercial building or room with the intent to commit a felony or a theft once inside.

Evidence would be your witnessing the action and you probably caught it all on security cameras...?
Whatever was caught on camera (or by a witness) regarding the offering of money is also substantiates intent.

I think it's worth reporting to your local constabulary.

Had we not got super busy Friday I would have contacted my IOI to see what they have to say about it. I was planning to contact our IOI this am since its my first day back since Friday and I already am working with ATF on this issue. Yes we don't take this stuff lightly around here and neither does the ATF.

But to answer your questions directly. Did he handle it- No, we didn't let him because we didn't want him to have the opportunity to leave with it or steal it. Do we have video- Yes. Will PD prosecute? No, the DA would be the one to do it. PD involvement is to gather evidence and make a report. It depends on what the DA wants to do about it.

I recall several AZ FFLs contacting ATF about some shady attempted gun sales.
ATF told the dealers to go ahead with the sales.
This turned-out to become known as "Fast & Furious".
