    Say what?

A friend sent me this link and I don't think it is true, but has anyone else heard anything about this?

That roster has since constricted to 744 as legacy handguns, certified for a five-year period, cannot meet the new requirement. All the models currently on the list are scheduled to lose their certification in 2018.

Sounds like the same question many have at the end of the year because the manufacturers do not renew early and panic ensues.

All are set to expire 1/1/18 unless renewed.

The authors' bio seem to say it all:

Chris Eger is an NRA-certified firearms instructor in multiple disciplines with a background in law enforcement and as a security contractor to the federal government. He has been writing badly since 2006 and has a number of poorly-received books in print. You can reach him via egerwriter@gmail.com

Yes, except there is the claim that they are certified for 5 years, which as far as I know it false. All renew at the end of the year as long as payment is made.

Is the author just an idiot or is there something that I am missing? I am betting on idiot, but if there is something that I am missing, then it would be good to know. Also, if the author is an idiot, it would be good to let them know.

I could not find anything for that so far.
I wonder if he is confused with the Firearms Safety Certificate which is good for 5 years?

The 2A implications of removing all new handguns for sale would be ummm, "interesting".

Let's say 'poorly informed', shall we.

I just sent him the appropriate text from the Code of Regulations and the PC.

In the meantime, aren't we waiting for a 9th appeals court to rule on Pena?

Could you post the sections so that I can be lazy and not look it up myself?

Poorly informed, idiot, pretty much the same thing :-).

                I sent

Just was referred to your 3/17/2017 article at guns.com, http://www.guns.com/2017/03/23/calif...ing-challenge/

                There you write
"That roster has since constricted to 744 as legacy handguns, certified for a five-year period, cannot meet the new requirement. All the models currently on the list are scheduled to lose their certification in 2018.”

                That’s incorrect.

All guns on the Roster are placed there for one year, at $200/year. That fee is due on Jan 1 of each year, so all guns are listed as ‘expiring’ on the next following Jan 1. Certainly some will not be renewed; manufacturers cannot maintain CA-only lines forever. But it is vanishingly unlikely that the manufacturers will choose to drop all of them.

See California Code of Regulations, Title 11, Division 5, Article 9, Section 4070 (a) and (b)
                (a) Within ten (10) days of the receipt of the Compliance Test Report, Form BOF 021 (Rev. 01/2012), and one prototype handgun, from the DOJ-Certified Laboratory; and the receipt of the initial annual listing fee from the manufacturer/importer, the DOJ will determine whether the handgun is not unsafe and may be sold in California. After the determination that the model may be listed, the DOJ will add the handgun model to the Roster of Certified Handguns. The listing will be valid for one year from the date the model was added to the Roster, and shall be renewed as set forth in section 4071 of these regulations.

                (b) Within ten (10) days of the receipt of the initial annual listing fee and a request from a manufacturer/importer to have a handgun model added to the Roster pursuant to Penal Code section 32030, the DOJ will determine whether the handgun model may be listed without testing. After the determination that the model may be listed, the DOJ will add the handgun model to the Roster. The listing will be valid for one year from the date the model was added to the Roster, and shall be renewed as set forth in section 4071 of these regulations.
                and Penal Code 32015(b)(1)
                (b) (1) The department may charge every person in this state who is licensed as a manufacturer of firearms pursuant to Chapter 44 (commencing with Section 921) of Title 18 of the United States Code, and any person in this state who manufactures or causes to be manufactured, imports into the state for sale, keeps for sale, or offers or exposes for sale any handgun in this state, an annual fee not exceeding the costs of preparing, publishing, and maintaining the roster pursuant to subdivision (a) and the costs of research and development, report analysis, firearms storage, and other program infrastructure costs necessary to implement Sections 31900 to 32110, inclusive. Commencing January 1, 2015, the annual fee shall be paid on January 1, or the next business day, of every year.

You would think that someone who professes to be a journalist. And writes for "Guns.com". Would spend at least 2 minutes on google to vet his info before posting worthless crap so his target audience can laugh at his ineptitude.

                    Geeesh.
