CA resident immigrants can buy guns, right??

I mean, I always assumed so, but I never really thought about the requirements.

The example would be this: citizen of another country, comes to CA to go to college, got a job after college, hiring company got him a visa, so he's here and everything is good. 6 year history of living in CA. Cell phone bills, power bills, CADL, the whole 9.

Can walk into any gun shop with a CA DL, current Utility Bill, and buy a gun, right?

    Or not right?....

Lots of answers here about nonimmigrant aliens... Even nonimmigrant aliens can possess and even purchase firearms under certain conditions (hunting license seems to be easiest exemption) but not entirely sure what you mean by "CA resident immigrant".

May a nonimmigrant alien who has been admitted to the United States under a nonimmigrant visa possess a firearm or ammunition in the United States?

An alien admitted to the United States under a nonimmigrant visa is prohibited from shipping, transporting, receiving, or possessing a firearm or ammunition unless the alien falls within one of the exceptions provided in 18 U.S.C. 922(y)(2), such as: a valid hunting license or permit, admitted for lawful hunting or sporting purposes, certain official representatives of a foreign government, or a foreign law enforcement officer of a friendly foreign government entering the United States on official law enforcement business.

      [18 U.S.C. 922(g)(5)(B) and 922(y)(2); 27 CFR 478.11 and 478.32]

May a nonimmigrant alien who has been admitted to the United States under a nonimmigrant visa and who falls within an exception, purchase a firearm or ammunition in the United States?

A nonimmigrant alien without residency in any State may not purchase and take possession of a firearm. A nonimmigrant alien may only purchase a firearm through a licensee where the licensee arranges to have the firearm directly exported. A nonimmigrant alien who falls within an exception may, however, purchase and take possession of ammunition.

A nonimmigrant alien who has established residency in a State may purchase and take possession of a firearm from an unlicensed person, provided the buyer and seller are residents of the same State, and no other State or local law prohibits the transaction. A nonimmigrant alien with residency in a State may purchase a firearm from a licensee, provided the sale complies with all applicable laws and regulations.

      [18 U.S.C. 922(a)(9); 27 CFR 478.29a]

It is rare at least for me to sell to a nonimmigrant alien. I maybe do one a year. Now sales to permanent resident (green Card), sales are common. They need all the normal stuff ( ID, Utility bill, FSC) and the Green Card.

Remember: READ the 4473 to make sure you document all requirements for non immigrant aliens to purchase firearms.

We do it often. Sometimes the DOJ will call to make sure they have a hunting license or other exemption.

We get that too. Once they called and we said "do you want their GO ID number?" She was so confused and said, no I just need the hunting license info...... DOH!
