    Roster question

One of these days I want to purchase a S&W 617. The 617-6 is shown as being on roster. Does that mean that an earlier version, say 617-4 or 617-5 would be considered not on roster?

Still trying to understand these CA laws. Your advice will be appreciated.

Roster is exactly as it says. If it's not there it doesn't dros.

Not on roster, but you can PPT an older version.

        (I like my 617-6, 4")

Also, if you can find a version that is >= 50 years old it is exempt from the roster. I don't know how far back the particular model goes you're looking for.

The exact model, with no changes other than night sights, has to be on the certified list in order to be transferred unless the transfer is exempt, such as a CA PPT, or the firearm is exempt, such as a C&R or single action of a certain size.

A change in color, grips, engraving, etc. all takes the firearm off the certified list.

A C&R is not just over 50 years old, it can be listed as well.

Revolvers can be single action exempted too. You just need the right FFL to do it and pay a little extra for the service.

For revolvers you can use the SAE option, basically you can buy any revolver you want roster or not if your FFL is familiar with the process.

As long as it meets the size requirements.

Any dealer that does enough of these has kits, of course the price is more when having to use them.

We use to have more kits and made the mistake of shipping revolvers throughout the state with them to never have them make it back to us. Now we will only do it for items DROSed at our location.
