Got a delayed. Some help please

Ok so I have no idea why but my handgun purchase just got a delay. Haven't purchased one for a few years so it's not multiplie in 30 days. Really have no clue what's going on. I tried calling DOJ but it's all automated and no way to speak to anyone.

Does anyone have a number where I can speak to someone? Or is it best to just wait and not call?

Relax and have a beer. Delayed is nothing, if not denied then that just means your 10 days became 30.

Delays can happen for many reasons. The most common (in my limited experience as a dealer) is they need more time to check eligibility. Some times its commonalities in names that needs clarification. Ex, Howard B Smith is a prohibited person, and you happen to have the same name and they're just checking. I have this happen with one particular customer, his dad is prohibited, he's a Jr and he gets delayed every time, and usually it gets resolved before the 10 day wait anyhow.

Yes, delays can take up to 30 days, be thankful legislation has been passed that no longer allows the DOJ to just indefinitely delay your purchase. Before they had no mandated timeframe to get back to customers or dealers and you just had to wait. Check with your dealer to see what their policy on Undetermined status is. Some dealers will release them, some won't. This has been discussed many times here on CG.

Other reasons for delays can be more personal and typically people don't want to tell us as a dealer what possible reasons there could be for a delay. Maybe an unpaid traffic violation, as mentioned. I've had DMV rejections before where a customer ran a camera red light, never got the notice, and their license was suspended for non payment. It can be many other reasons, and you will know better than anyone on CG. If you ever have had a run in with the law or something you may have forgotten, that could be the reason.

No, we don't have any special phone numbers for you to call and ask the DOJ about your status. You're not the only one they're dealing with who's been delayed, and if they took time to field every call about it they would never get around to doing what they're supposed to do. They will not take your call about it as you have figured out. As Baboosh said its just sit and wait time.

Rest easy if you are certain that there is no possible way for you to be denied. I can tell you personally I've never been delayed, but if I were I would have no doubt in my mind that there's no possible way IM the prohibited party. Now, ID theft has occurred with one of my regulars, and it took some time for him to clear that up. But, thats a very very rare occurrence.

Even if you jump through all of the computerized phone masturbation processes at the DOJ and someone finally calls you back. Guess what they will tell you?

NOTHING!.........they claim privacy concerns for "your info protection" to not tell you anything about why they jerked you around.

Hopefully you did "due diligence" and shopped for a FFL that delivers on "undetermined".

Anyone know of an FFL that will consider releasing on a possible Undetermined status in the southern Cali. region?

I know someone that was/is in massive child support arrears that has never been denied or delayed that I know of over many years. In some of those years little to no child support was paid.

Thanks all for the help. As frustrating as it is I'm patiently waiting. Talked to the ffl and he stated they do release undetermined. Hopefully they just clear up the issue and approve it whatever the issue may be.

I don't have an expired license I actually just renewed in April. No other issues. Just wish they would contact me so whatever it is could be resolved or at least brought tinny attention. Have purchased many guns in the past and have never had an issue. Even looked at the dros and all info looked correct.

Well just got some great news. Both my purchases have been approved and didn't have to wait the 30 days. Not sure what the issue was but very glad it got straightened out.

Turners no release on undetermined. New policy.

How many days did it take for it to flip on Approval after Delay?
