Filling out Intra-Familial Transfer paperwork. Couple questions.

So my dad was recently convicted of a felony and has given me all his guns.

One of his handguns were purchased from a friend prior to 1991 so it wasn't through an FFL. He doesn't remember the exact date but knows it was pre-1991 because he got it before I was born (1989) but we are doing the paperwork and don't know what to put for date was thinking a good guess.

Also, what is the difference between "handgun origin" and "acquired from" fields?

For a Glock would we put Austria for firearm origin???

    Thanks for the help.

Don't hesitate to call the manufacturer and ask them where they disposed it and follow it down the line. You're probably going to hit a dead-end but it isn't much of a time investment to try to trace it yourself.

I think that you are over thinking the form. You are filling out the firearm and you are the one who is acquiring the firearms and you are acquiring the firearms from your father. I may be wrong, but I would think that it is asking how you acquired it, not how the person who gave it to you acquired it. You are the owner because it was transferred to you.

The origin is where the firearm was manufactured and acquired is where you got it.

It depends. There are some Glocks which are made in the USA. All firearms should have where they are made, which is the origin.

Correct. Date acquired = the date YOU acquired it, not your father. Acquired from = you acquired it from your father. Origin = country of manufacture, but this really does not need to be accurate. DOJ wouldn't reject your form for this field, even if you wrote Zimbabwe.

The form pertains to your acquisition of the gun from your dad. Where or when your dad got it means nothing on this form, it has no bearing whatsoever.

You put the date your dad gave it to you, and acquired from = your father's name. Origin is country of origin. Some Glocks are made in USA and some in Austria. It will say on the frame and/or the slide.
