I've got some questions regarding the CA DOJ roster and what happens when a gun meets its expiration date. I've looked for the answer/s, but haven't found them. If this is the wrong forum for these questions, forgive me, but I took a shot thinking that if FFLs trolled these pages, one of them would have good answers for me. If my thread needs to be moved to the proper forum, so be it.
Here goes:
I was looking at the CA DOJ roster the other day (filtered Glocks & Springfields specifically) and noticed that most (or all) of those pistols meet their expiration date on January 1, 2018. That got me thinking:
1) Is there a renewal process those makers have to go through to extend or establish a new expiration date?
2) Does CA automatically or by default extend that date if manufacturers pay a fee?
OR
3) Does that date mean those guns come off the roster and that's that? Period, end of story. Therefore, meaning in practice, one cannot buy those guns in CA any longer.
Here's why it matters to me. I have 2 younger daughters that I need to buy for. If the Glock 26 & 27 come off roster on January 1, 2018, I need to buy 2 guns this year. If NOT, and there is a renewal of sorts on that expiration date, I have more time. Factor in the "1 gun every 30 days" law and I need to plan it properly.
