    Prop 63

I got a call from a big wig at Sportsmans guide who was reaching out to the CA dealers who do a lot of their transfers asking if we would be willing to accept their ammo shipments next year. Anybody else given any thoughts to this yet? We told him probably we could accommodate that. Depending on the regs and hassle of it when its implemented. Thoughts and Feedback....

From a business standpoint, i would prefer to sell my customers their ammo and price competitive, instead of incoming cases of someone elses ammo.

Getting new customers to come in your doors to pick up ammo, regardless of where it's coming from, gives you a chance for additional sales of other items. Right?

( That is if it's not too much of a hassle, dealing with the regulations, for you.)

Just my two cents as a customer, not as an FFL.

I don't sell ammo currently anyhow. I see your standpoint. Both of you.

Isn't that the same reason FFL's sold out and forcing PPT's to go through FFL's? Moot point on Prop 63, but just sayin...

OP, if you do accept shipments, what happens if they get denied? You send it back on your dime?

Typically shooters who purchase quantities of "Online" ammo. Do not patronize LGS FFL for ammo now.

FFLs reap no current benefit/profit from those buyers.

63 would funnel them to LGS FFLs for ammo pick up, which the FFL can charge a fee for.

Some profit is better than nothing. Even if not as much as unit markup on retail purchases now. Especially since same paperwork requirement will be in effect due to 63 for regular incidental patrons as large online buys. And without the "inventory stocking issues".

I'm certain I'm not seeing the "entire" picture as of yet. But what little we know at this time. That is one way to look at the 63 issue from a business standpoint.

Same thing that happens now on the interstate transfer for firearms. If they want a refund from the online vendor they have to pay to ship it back. Usually the online vendors send us a return label.

I think dealers will be just the same way they are with online transfers of firearms. Some charge more for the service than others.. Send your ammo to a dealer that has the concept of some money repeatedly is better than a huge gouge up front..

What makes anyone think that out of state vendors will even ship to licensed ammo vendors?

Then there's the storage issues. Not all shops will be able to handle the ammo storage issues and logistics of it.

There are times when a person doesn't show up for two months to claim a transferred handgun. Waiting for someone to show up for a couple thousand rounds of ammo could be problematic. Times that by many many orders combined with dealer stock.

We are not looking forward to it, moving thousands of rounds of ammo everyday makes my back hurt just thinking about it.

We will be doing it but IMO we are not going to be cheap. Factor in how many times you will have to move said boxes, store boxes and the fact that like guns people do not come in for just 1 or right when it gets to you means we all will be shuffling heavy boxes around. Imagine the guy ordering ammo from multiple websites and wanting to get them all at once.

Not going to be doing this for $10....

Yea, we are totally unsure of the pricing. We hadn't even thought about this until Sportsmans Guide called us.

Also, the sales tax question comes up again for this.

                          We considered tiered pricing.

                          $10 flat fee.

$0 if you are there when UPS drops off and we don;t have to move the ammo
$5 each time we have to move your box (keeps people from using us as ammo storage)

Great, we need to use time, resources and materials to collect sales tax and do all the paperwork.
