Modified revolver - is it still "on roster"?

Let's say a person owns a Ruger Super Redhawk Alaskan 44 magnum that was bought and registered here in California. At the time of purchase and still today that particular revolver is on the approved roster. Let's further assume that the owner sends it off to be modified: new barrel, new cylinder, and changes the caliber from 44 mag to 475 Linebaugh. The serial number is still the same, it still says "Ruger" on the revolver. But it has a new barrel and the caliber is different.

Is this still an "on-roster" approved handgun?

Thanks in advance for all qualified opinions.

No, it is not the same. To be on the roster it has to be the same as the make and model submitted to CA for testing. Changing the barrel cylinder and caliber would make it no longer on roster available for a dealer sale. Its still lawfully owned and one could PPT it if wished.

If you change anything on it other than sights, it is not considered to be on the list. This includes changing the grips, color, engraving, etc.

kemasa, "on" the list or "off" the list? If I read your reply correctly you're saying the modified revolver would still be considered to be on the approved roster?

Kemasa made a typo (which is highly unusual for him)

          it should

As others have mentioned, the list only matters for a dealer sale. Off-roster handguns are perfectly legal to own and buy/sell via private party transaction.

What are you talking about? :-)

            Too bad it shows edits.

Yes, I meant to say that such changes cause the firearm to not be considered to be on the certified list.

I wish that were true, the unusual part, I think I just don't get caught :-).
