    COE Name spelled wrong

    What's with these people ?

I just looked closely at the COE and the letter. When you write "NMN" in the "Middle Name" section it shouldn't come back like this.

    Any suggestions ?

I don't think doj knows what NMN is. On most of their forms they expect it to be blank. Write in and ask for a correction or fix on renewal.

Sorry, but it is kind of funny and not surprising.

Heck... I didn't know what it meant either. Leave it blank if you don't have one. My Dad didn't have one either so he just picked Joseph and it stuck...

Not exactly the same, but one of our guys had his COE issued with an incorrect name spelling when he was first hired to work at our range. He was advised by DOJ that since it was spelled incorrectly, the background check was performed incorrectly and the COE was invalid. He had to submit for correction and wait for the new one for it to be valid.

I don't recall what DOJ specifically advised to do for correction, but I'll ask him when I see him. I would say to notify DOJ and request a correction. GL and this also does not surprise me.

I Just looked at the COE application. I didn't see anywhere where it tells you to put NMN Or anything for that matter where a middle name went. This seems to be your fault. I would suggest redoing your application with the correct info as I would doubt this one is valid.

Leaving something blank can mean you just did not put it down or that it does not apply.

I have to wonder if N/A was put down if they would get it. NMN is listed on the 4473, so it is not surprising that someone would put that down, but the person looking at it clearly did not have a clue.

NMN on one form, nothing on another. I'll see what they say.

                  I agree.

The federal form 4473 requires the "NMN" and on the CA DROS the section is left blank when swiping the ID strip if there isn't a middle name. It certainly does funky things with suffixes though.

Since only the FFL will see the DROS screen and would typically have knowledge of the two forms differences, I could see why someone would assume CA requires that.

Given the wonderful parents of society, it also would not surprise me if someone out there actually has a middle name of "NMN".
