I see them pop up on the marketplace and from my reading they have to be fixed 10 round magazine and purchased and DROS prior to Jan 1. Question I have is, can I legally do a PPT and stay within the law? Thanks for your input.

AR or AK pistol PPT

As long as it is no longer considered an assault weapon, it would be legal to PPT one.
Because an AR/AK style pistol can not be made "featureless", in order to be CA legal it needs to be configured as one of the following:
A. Single-shot pistol.
B. Manually operated (bolt/lever/pump) pistol.
C. Semi-auto pistol with a fixed magazine that is contained in the firearm and can not be removed without dissembling the firearm's action.
D. Semi-auto pistol with a fixed magazine that is permanently attached to the firearm (magazine is welded/epoxied/riveted into the magazine well).sigpic
