    Address question with a DROS

I have two addresses that I spend an equal amount of time at.

My ID, and registration has the other address. The address that is on those documents is not the same at the ONLINE DMV website.

Because I spend time at both addresses, would it be okay to just update the DMV online which would make my address the same as on my ID and car registration(which is new).

If that would be an auto denial(not sure why?) The only documents I would be able to produce is my lease agreement(it is now month to month), and Utility bills(Elec, gas) which both have my current address including with my ID(other address).

I have been looking into this and Would I be correct in indicating that I could just change my address online which would make my DMV info the same as my documents?

    I plan on getting a Glock 19.

Since it won't be an AW next year then I would say get all your documents in order then make the purchase. I'm not sure what address they cross check to get the ok.

Yea my concern is I dont have another gov doc that has my address and with my other address(one not on ID) i have a seperate mailing address and california always puts mailing on all documents which is a pain in the arse.

This is why im asking about just changing my address online.

From my understanding if my ID does not have the same address as the DMV then i need to provide an ID and if different address than DMV then i need GOV proof of residency then a CA proof of residency.

aka California doing me in the arse with this mailing address crap

If your CA ID has the same address with your electric bill you should be fine. Your primary proof of residence is your valid CA ID secondary proof of residence in a car registration or electric bill.

ID and registration has address 9562

util and lease has address 55882 on it.

So essentially it would be easier to go online and change my DMV address to match my ID and car registration then?

Incorrect. You are required by ATF to prove Identity and address. An ID is valid for identity and address for ATF.

Cal DOJ does not recognize an ID as proof of residency for handgun purchases. You are required to bring documentation proving residency for CA DOJ.

If your address is incorrect on your ID you are required to bring supporting documentation for question 20B on the 4473. The federal requirements for proof of address do not align with what DOJ says is acceptable for proof of residency.

Check with your FFL who you are buying it from to be sure what they will accept. Most big retailers are unaware of the combination of documents that could be used to satisfy both.

I just submitted the online change of address at the dmv website so it matched my ID and car registration which I'm at half my time which I consider my personal residence. So meh.

Walked in and put down I'd and car registration which now match online dmv website. All my mail goes there anyways lol. Including car registration haha.

Anyways I'll see what happens but everything should now pass the DMV check at least and I know I have no convictions so I should be good.

Thanks for the conversation on this.

Hate to spoil this for you but your address is not part of your background check. DMV rejections are for invalid ID/DLs not because your address isn't the same as what DMV has.

I was always told it has to match what the DMV has.

Then it will pass no problem. Both addresses will populate ME So it will end up fine. If they are just running a background check using my address then it will find me no problem. I always thought they checked the DMV for address. went through that for nothing then.

EXCEPT turners did something super odd. They listed my correct city under my customer profile but they listed the other city that is under the same zip code XD. Meh USPS considers it all the same though. So its a phone to call them right now.
                  ***UPDATE****
Spoke to them and its a common thing in our area but it always ends up okay. So I wont worry about it.
Hope to be a proud owner of a Glock 19 soon First handgun I will own.

                  So this will be fun.

I appreciate some of the clarifications given here and I was just so stuck on wanting this done right because i already have to wait 10 days and don't want it to be more.

They only use your ID/DL number. They rely on the FFL to get the correct address and documentation to support it.

Sometimes the DES System auto populates the field, nothing we can do, no big deal.

Yea I called them and they said it happens all the time with our ZIP and they said the same exact thing you did about the ID.

I should be picking it up in 10 days now.
