    Out of state resident question

I used to be a CA resident and last year I became an Alaska resident. I still have my home here in CA. My firearms were purchased here in CA while I was a CA resident. I am in CA for a few months and would like to sell a few of my rifles. I understand that the sale can not be a ppt. One dealer stated he would only accept the rifle if I took it to Alaska and had it shipped from an FFL to him. Is this correct and is there a way for me to legally sell a rifle while I am still in CA? The rifle is a mini-14 Ranch Rifle with 10 rd. mag.

Thanks, but I stated in the post that I understood that this could not be conducted as a PPT. I was thinking that this could be processed the same as someone buying a firearm through the internet and having it shipped to an FFL, except that instead of shipping it, I would be delivering it in person.

You can deal with a sane FFL. There is absolutely no reason why you would have to ship the firearm from Alaska. You can bring it in and have it done as a normal shipped firearm for transfer. CA PPTs limits the fees, but there is really no requirement that it would even have to be done that way.

If you want to have fun, you could ask that FFL under what legal basis would the firearm have to be shipped from your state of resident, but I suspect you won't get a real answer.

If you still have a house here, you might consider getting a CA ID.

Thanks Kemasa! I like the idea of getting a CA ID. That would make the most sense as I plan on selling a few more.
