FSC Cards - You can look them up in database!

    [rant]
We just had a customer who was starting DROS and couldn't initially find his FSC card. He kept telling us "you can look it up" to which I responded "only the place you purchased can do that".. He kept saying "no you're wrong you can look it up in the database". To which I kept responding "Only the place/person you purchased can look it up in a database"... he finally found it, but it amazes me that he kept telling us what we are able to do...

*sigh* - otherwise he's been fine...

Actually, it is worse than that. As I understand it, it is ONLY the FSC Instructor who issued it who can look it up. If that person is not there or gone, then you are SOL.

You could save a copy of the PDF, but then it is not signed by the instructor. You could keep a signed copy by scanning, but then it is not the original.

I scanned mine to my computer and printed a few copies. I leave the original at home and just carry a copy.

I know people seem to think that there is some all knowing computer, yeah, the state isn't that efficient.

Also, ATF traces don't work like they show on CSI too. Spoilers.

I just had a customer present me one where the instructor signed it, made a copy, and then told the customer to sign the copy. So the customer's copy doesn't even have the instructors ink sig (it's his photocopied sig). WTH? I would have never even thought to do that (or had a reason to)

It may be that they gave a signed copy so that they can print it out again and again. That solves the problem of getting another copy, although I am not sure that it is right.

The previous shop didn't sign the copy.. They signed the original, made a copy, and told the customer to sign that. So the customer's copy does not have an original instructor signature on it. I'm also surprised how many shops give out the full page... I guess it's easier/cheaper to print 2 copies then it is to cut the paper in half (or in my case cut out the card).

What I meant was if they give the customer a signed soft copy, the customer can print that out and sign it.

It's interesting the ingenuity shops will think of now that we print up our own... I don't see why what you suggested would really be a bad thing..it's not like the FSC ever gets revoked.. what negative can even happen if folks were doing what you mentioned...

All the ones I issue are digitally signed using acrobat. I print 2 copies and keep a copy saved on my network backup. No point in helping the state make money if one of my customers loses theirs.

I keep PDF copy too, but have re-signed when customer shows up...have only had to dupe 1 or 2...and it was for a customer doing paperwork with us so we just re-created their card since they forgot it at home. A few customers just leave their FSC with us... that's always a vote of confidence :P

Like you I have only had a couple lose them. Both due to stolen wallets. Can't believe people put their wallet in the center console and leave it there. I always print 2 copies since I can't stand having a half sheet of paper in my dros bundles.

I print two copies. The customer and I sign both and I keep one in my file. In the even he/she loses it, I have one for them.
