    4473

Ok dealers. At what point are you just done with a customer when they can't fill out a 4473 correctly? How many times until you are just like I'm not selling you a firearm since you can't fill this out correctly.

I'm not a FFL but sometimes people can't read so well. Or comprehend written sentences. Can you verbally ask the questions and let them fill in their answer? The reason I ask is because during one of my last purchases a older gentleman had severe dyslexia and needed assistance.

Having people incorrectly fill out the 4473 is the nature of the business. A lot of customers are thinking about their new purchase and not focused on filling in the paperwork correctly. It is bad for us, since the paperwork needs to be perfect. I always tell customers to take their time and ask questions. You can always remind your customer of the importance, of accurately filling out a federal form.

We had somebody who it took 8 times to do it correctly. And on the 7th try still answered the first question on 11 with a. NO.

My point is at what point does non comprehension become telling them how to fill it out so they can get their gun? I'm serious. I've had 3 customers in the last week who I would question their comprehension of the questions being asked.

I like when shops make up their own rules on filling out a 4473 and claim or act like it is the law. My favorite was Wal-Mart insisting you put your SSN on the 4473.

You must fill out 10a and 10b...okay, they say. Then they skip 10a...what? Why would they ask that? Really, I have to fill that in? Geesh, Sometimes I feel like a school teacher!

We have had people who cannot read very well and we help them. It does get frustrating when it takes 30-45 minutes to fill out a 4473 but I would rather deal with them than people who want to get into a Glock vs 1911 debate EVERY SINGLE TIME THEY COME IN.

My issue lies more with those who can not read English. And I am not talking about Spanish speakers, it seems to be more people from Asian countries who only read and write in say Chinese.

People who can't fill out forms are almost as bad as those who get FSCs from pawn shops then buy guns from bigger chains.

No, difference here. I'm not complaining here. I've had a few come in where the one guy speaks no English and his buddy translates, cool not a problem. The issue is where I'm pretty sure he just told him how to answer and wasn't really answering himself. Or where like for state of residence they put something completely wrong, like a different country. I'm actually concerned here about these being filled out properly and not just what somebody's friend told them to write. I had another who had a picture of a 4473 and they filled it out based on what the photo said. (not his personal info but question 11 stuff)

That is a no no for us. We have had people bring in notes, aka a 4473 all filled out they use because 'they don't know it off hand' and need help.

If you don;t know your address then look at your license. Not on your license? Look at your registration etc.

You can answer the questions without having the answers?

It really depends on what the issue is. Having someone tell them the answers or using other means to answer the questions: NO.

I have not had a problem, but I am not very forgiving if they can't fill it out with a good reason (vision, etc.).
