Old Address on ID

Dear Sirs,

I've got a couple questions, and I haven't found any previous discussions that really address it.

I've recently had to split my time between two addresses due to work. I filed for a change of address with the DMV so that my new address would be the one on file, but of course my driver's license will reflect my old place until it gets replaced/reissued.

Would there be a problem if I use my DL(that has my old address on it) as my photo ID? Which address would I put on the 4473? I pay utilities for both places so I've got proof of residency for either.

It's real simple. Where do you live? That's the address you put down on the 4473. If that address does not match what's shown on your ID you will need to provide alternative documentation proving your address. What is acceptable for DOJ may not work for ATF. They wil want to see some sort of government document that proves your address.

ATF wont' take utility bill if not from government.

--Although OP-- to be fair, what we tell you hear is irrelevant. Ask the FFL you are going to use what they will take. Regardless of what is "legal" not all FFLs take the same stuff so don't rely on what is legal vs what will get you through the transaction. The FFL will have to deal with the document issue being correct or incorrect on the backend with ATF and DOJ during audit. It's really not your problem.

You can also get an ID card in addition to a DL.

Maybe your DL and a city dog license or ham radio operators permit?

I have a California Driver's license that lists my PO Box and not a physical address. I presented that, plus my vehicle registration and an electricity bill and 4 of 5 FFL's took just the DL and the registration. The 5th acted liked I'd just kicked a puppy through a floor fan and sent me away.

Ask the FFL in question whether the documents you have are sufficient.
