I purchased a firearm online and had it shipped to my LGS who will remain nameless ( I don't want to point fingers, yet ) I chose them over all the rest because it seems like they had the cheapest prices around for gun transfers. $25 is what I heard, it seemed like a really cheap deal so I went ahead and pulled the trigger on the purchase and my gun was on its way there.
I was so excited for my new gun to arrive that I patiently waited all day long at home constantly refreshing my browser to see when the tracking number shows it had been delivered to the store. It was delivered to the LGS yesterday, not sure what time because I had to take time off my refreshing to come out of my moms basement because she was yelling at me that I needed to take out the trash and get a Pepsi out of the fridge.
It showed it had been delivered but the gun store hadn't called me yet, not sure why? I can't possibly think of any reasons why my gun isn't the most important one they received that day. I waited and waited for them to call, but they never did. I went on Yelp to see when they closed and I found out that their hours are 9-6 everyday. I cant believe they forgot to call me. (im getting a little steamed at this point in my day but I figured I can call them first thing in the morning and Ill go down right away and DROS my new gun)
I almost couldn't sleep last night. I spent hours laying in my twin size bed looking at google images of the gun I ordered, just imagining how awesome it will be once I finally have this bad boy in my hands. I finally went to sleep around 3 am after mom came downstairs and told me that I was too loud when I play Call of Duty and I was keeping my stepdad awake with my shouting. Geez, I wasn't even that loud, I mean he wakes up at 4:30 anyhow to drive to work so I can sleep all day. What a joke.
I set my alarm clock for exactly 9:00 am. (I'm never awake this early) I got out my phone and called the store to say "why haven't you called me yet? My gun was delivered yesterday. What have you been doing this whole time?"
The manager on the phone, well at least he tries to act like he is the manager tells me "Yes, I'm sure your gun was delivered here to the store yesterday. We ask that you give us at least 24 hours to log all the guns in that we get and due to the recent demand in transfers we are scheduling appointments for all our transfers. I'm sure your firearm is still in one of these boxes that we got yesterday that we still hadn't opened yet."
He proceeds to brag about how they got about 20 shipments yesterday and how his staff even stayed late last night trying to catch up with all the paperwork and didn't leave until about 8:00 last night. I don't believe it, I mean honestly how long can it possibly take?
So I ask him "so can I come by in a few hours to start my DROS?" He started to get a little rude with me at this point when he said "Sir, we will have to check to be sure that your gun is logged in and we got all the necessary paperwork from the other FFL. Once we have done this we will call you to set up an appointment. But we can't do it today because we have already booked appointments for the entire day"
I just can't believe this nonsense. They must be stupid or something. Who ever ships a gun without giving all the correct paperwork with it? I just think he's making stuff up now to get me off the phone. I ask what my total cost will be and he said "I don't know yet since we haven't seen your invoice to give you an exact total. But, if you know how much you paid or sales tax rate is 9% and our fee is $25 plus $25 for DROS. If your gun didn't come with an approved OEM lock or you do not have a gunsafe at home you will have to buy a lock from us for $5." How can he NOT give me an exact price? Does he expect me to do the math myself?
I wait about another hour in the basement and I can't take it any longer. I think this guy is just giving me the run around so I decide that I'm just going to drive down there and tell them I'll wait for them to do their paperwork then when they're ready for me I can start my DROS then. I rush upstairs only to find that Mom had taken the Mercury Sable to the grocery store to buy me my hotpockets, tater tots and Pepsi. WAITING AGIAN so I can use her car.
When she finally gets home I rush out and grab the keys and take off down the road in the Mercury toward the store who is now at this point, holding MY gun hostage. Upon arriving I go inside and what do I see? There are not only one, but 3 guys working there who are just standing behind the counter with pens in hand writing stuff down on paper. I assume that this paperwork has NOTHING to do with my gun transfer. So, I walk up to one of the fellas and say, "hey Im here to start my DROS" And you know what he said? "Cool, whats your name and appointment time" As he proceeds to produce some sort of 'schedule' and informs me that I'm not on it and they aren't ready for me to start my DROS yet. I mean how is this possible?
The guy who thinks he's a big shot comes over and tells me. I told you earlier we would call you to set and appointment when we were finished logging in your gun. He fumbles around for a little while looking for what I think was my gun in the back, and begrudgingly says that since I'm here now he will do it for me. Like he's doing me a huge favor or something. I happened to glace in the back and see many many boxes that I assume are less important than me customers guns. He finally saunters out of the back holding my prize in his hands.
I slap my ID and FCS card down on the counter so he can start the paperwork for me. And you know what he did? He made me wait while he logged the gun into his system. Can you believe that? More waiting! He finally says I can start my 4473 and I whip through that thing like a tornado in a trailer park! DONE! Is my 10 day wait up yet? He then proceeds to ask me rude questions like "what would you like me to put down on your DROS as race for you? Have I ever been convicted of a felony? Are you the subject of any restraining orders?" WHO DOES THIS GUY THINK HE IS? How is any of this any of his business.
After all this he makes me take a fake dummy round tells me he is now going to show me how to safely load and unload and operate MY firearm. Who does he think he is? Travis Haley ? He's going to show ME how to SAFELY us the gun I ordered. Jeez at this point I've had it up to here with this place. Then he makes me demonstrate to him how to use MY gun. Does he think he's better than me or something. I bet he doesn't even know how to shoot anyhow. What a loser.
I finish my paperwork and leave the store. I quickly run out to the Mercury to grab my iPhone that my mom still pays for and write a Yelp! review about how I was treated so unfairly at this shop. After taking the time to leave an honest review of this place and a 2 star rating, their prices are pretty cheap, and that's only why they got the extra star.
I cruise home and tell mom to that I think I'll have two hotpockets and to bring them down to the basement when they're ready because I just have to jump on Calguns.net to let the whole gun world know how I was just treated at this place and how I will NEVER, EVER come back here again. Or, at least until I want buy another gun online and I ship it to them because after all I'm a cheapskate and I will gladly leave a poor yelp review and complain about them on Calguns, but I will not pay more than $25 for a transfer and they are the cheapest around.
Beware of this shop. If you go there you can expect a few things, You will have to wait your turn, have all the proper ID and documents with you! Can you believe this place.

Make him stop, my sides are splitting.
. Unless you are exempt from the safe handling demo you have to do that. Did you contact the FFL before hand to make sure the process was as expected?
