    PPT Questions

    Hello FFLs:

I'm hoping you can clarify some rules for me as I'll be doing a PPT again soon and I want to avoid any further issues.

I gifted a relative a long gun via PPT at a locally referred FFL.
Both Seller & "Purchaser" = CA residents, "Purchaser" = Active Military.

    These are my questions;
    1. Must the Seller Provide Proof of Residence in a PPT transaction, beyond the CDL?
    2. Must the FFL Copy the Military ID?
    3. Must the FFL Show Seller & "Purchaser's" addresses (DROS form) to each other?

Thanks for your input, I really appreciate the help.

    1. NO
    2. Yes if being used for FSC exemption or proof of identity. NOTE: Active military with PCS orders showing stationed in CA is required if this person can not produce a CA ID/DL
    3. No, there are 3 separate DROS sheets in a PPT, one for the dealer to retain, one for the seller and buyer, the latter do not show the others information on it, whereas the dealer copy has it on there.

I thought it was illegal to copy military ID. just like it is illegal to copy FBI creds.

but I wouldn't hold CADOJ forcing a dealer into a federal felony to satisfy CA law.

Do you want an AOW or C&R SBS/SBR in CA?

I'll have Joe chime in on this tomorrow for you. It's ok and he has the US code that applies. It says something to the effect of except when required by law. And in this case it would be.

          People are often referring to

That advisory was rescinded on August 13, 2009 (0050-09-FPA (Change 1))
Because the copy is required by law it is acceptable.

I think that what OC is what Joe was talking about. We had a huge discussion about this a few months ago.
