If I wanted to sell ammo...

In laguna hills orange county, and am curious about starting a business selling ammo despite all of the new regulations. I'd like to get prepared prior to the new ammo vendor bullsht implementation. It's my understanding I need a COE, FFL Type 07 (?) , someone from the city hall to say "yes deebix you can open this type of business", and business insurance.

Are there any blackholes a noob like myself should be aware of when considering such a business operation?

Thats going to be a difficult business to get into especially in California. Would you be selling reloads or factory ammo? Will you have the ability to compete with larger companies like SGAmmo? Would you be able to sell directly to the consumer or will it have to be shipped in the state with a fee? Just some things to think about. If you do undertake it, I wish you the best with your endeavor.

Machinery is going to be a significant expense if you plan on producing large quantities of ammo...machines break and you'll still have to fill orders so you cannot get by long on consumer rated equipment.

I started looking into the idea in 2009(had my 07ffl as well) and when you make the jump from Dillons to production grade machines(loaders, packagers, bullets) the cost could get into the hundreds of thousands of dollars.

There is a thread around somewhere from back inthe day when another Calgunner tried his hand at production ammo...it did not end well. Someone will know what I am talking about. The thread is a good read if you are interested in seeing what can go wrong.

ETA...just noticed you said "sell" and not "produce" so I guess that makes my answer pretty useless, LOL.

I would be open to have people import ammo into the state through me so long as I demand a minimum order amount for a fixed price or a small % for smaller orders. Otherwise I would just sell factory loaded ammo directly to consumers. I reckon selling reloads takes on extraordinary risk that I am not willing to subject myself to.
