what action would a CA FFL take if a distributor shipped a rifle and it didn't have a bullet button?

I get rifles all the time without bullet buttons, but I'm assuming you are referring to semi-automatics centerfire rifles with features?

If so the best thing you can do is intercept them before they are delivered and have them returned to the shipper and you never have to deal with it. The other option is immediately return it, as we have been told is the best option. If this is not possible turn it over to PD as an assault weapon.

Since the rifles I think your referring to come to "distributors" w/o "bullet buttons" from the factory, I know of no "distributors" that ship rifles with "bullet buttons".

Davidsons ships the windham weaponry WW15 with a BB. And the Smith & Wesson MP 15 Sport and OR with BBs. And probably others, but these are some of the ones we ordered.

Lots of posts on this. Legally should be sent back to oblivouse ffl. Some will remove release or install bb. Buyer should notify shipping ffl of restrictions to be safe. Lots of newbies don't, They assume and we all know what that leads to. (Disappoinment)

We used to get non-compliant firearms occasionally when we were in CA. Box it back up and get it shipped back the same day, if possible. Talk to the originating vendor. Get a shipping reimbursement from the transferee or the vendor.

A lot of companies make CA legal rifles now..including folks like Century Arms, Colt, S&W, WW, etc...

How many of those will make 2017 legal featureless I'm not sure. I think only S&W does now with their NY compliant variants..

Some distributors will make them CA compliant. Also a lot of manufacturers make CA models.

I don't know of any big distributors that will ship non compliant firearms. We buy mostly from RSR, Davidsons and Lipseys and even things that are CA compliant but not designated CA they won't ship.

When they do come in it is usually from other FFLS out of state who have no clue about CA laws.

Lipseys is notorious for shipping AWs into the state. Sports South used to be bad, but they've gotten much better about holding shipment.
