    Word of Caution

FFLs beware! I just got of the phone with an out of state online vendor who shipped us a firearm that was not CA compliant. I called to get a return label sent to me so I can immediately return it today. He wanted to argue about it saying he had already shipped hundreds of these into CA the exact same configuration and I'm the first to complain about them. The issue has to do with overall length. The rifle comes in 24 inches an has a clip on stock to make it longer. It is fire-able at 24" and centerfire. I got my label on the way and its going back, but the gist of the conversation with this "manager" of the facility was that he'll just send it elsewhere, to my reply I don't care what he does with it. His reply was "just put the stock on yourself" it's simple. And it equated it with that's like shipping me an AK with a bullet button in the box with it and saying "well, just put the bullet button on yourself, its simple"

I know we are getting lots of new orders from online and a lot of new vendors are stepping into the foray of California sales, but we need to be diligent about these sort of things.

The purpose of my call to this vendor wasn't to argue with some manager there but to 1. get a label so I can return it at their expense not mine, and 2. politely educate them so they don't have a lot of returns for non-compliant firearms. What really gripes me is they charged the customer $70 to make the gun "CA Compliant" and only did half the job with the justification that "its easier to ship it that way"

Long story short they are sending me a return label and it will be going back, however, I just don't want you guys to get caught up with these things.

    Word of Caution

Discount guns and the CZ scorpion. Tell them to disassemble the trigger from the rifle and have them send it back. Same problem here as well. Or have your customer order it from Alpha Cat who does it the right way

I recently posted this in my vendor forum.

THIS IS A NOTICE FOR ALL CALGUNNERS TO READ AND PASS ON FOR YOUR OWN GOOD.

There are conversion dealers that just entered the game recently that are damaging guns or shipping in an illegal configuration.

I am fixing bad conversions and helping california residents get illegal guns converted properly.

You absolutely should be asking your middleman or seller how he is converting your gun and what parts are being used. There is a good reason why I am severely backed up and other converters can ship quickly. They are screwing up and breaking CA law to make a quick buck off you. There are only a few good converters like EBR Works and none of them are a competitor to me so this is not to try to drum up business. It is actually to lower business so I can fix fewer mistakes and save you money and time.

Here are some examples in the last few months.

These are felonies I have been fixing:
PTR or HK style guns getting shipped with functional paddle release. The bullet button means nothing when the mag can be released with the paddle. Cheap converters use cheap parts. I use the best part for each gun.

CZ BRENs with the stock removed. A very big online seller that just got into the conversion business is not locking stocks open to meet the 30+" requirement. They are only removing the stock which is a felony since the gun can fire with the stock removed.

AK variant folders are not getting stocks locked open.

Featureless guns are not getting flash hiders removed.

Besides the felonies, converters are damaging your guns. The few converters that lock stocks open are drilling into your guns and inserting anything from roll pins to shiny sheet metal screws. Sometimes it can't be helped but 99.999% of my conversions are 100% reversible and there is no damage to the gun.

Many converters are simply waiting for me to convert a gun and then they copy me. No big deal but now I am not making it as easy for them to figure out how it is done. I get a lot of spy messages asking me how my conversions are done. I no longer explain it so the newer guns like BRENS, Scorpions, and Galils are getting chewed up or shipped illegally.

I am selling hard to get guns like Galils to Raddlock and Prince50 so they can make bullet buttons for you. I am selling them at dealer cost. I am also shipping parts out to companies on my own dime so they can make grip wraps, buttons, etc for guns that never had compliance parts. A lot of the new parts coming out are due to me.

Many converters are keeping your original parts. I am constantly getting requests for magazine catches and flash hiders. Some manufacturers will not sell the original parts to CA residents. I include all the original parts with your gun since you bought them. Those converters tell their customers they will not ship the stolen part once it is discovered missing. There usually is no disclaimer on the websites that the parts will not be included so make sure you ask. A SIG ambi or LWRC ambi catch can be $80+ through me after shipping.

There is a reason why I am the only dealer in the country to ship a $50,000 AWB rifle into CA. It is why I get lots of pre-86 guns like real HKs and Galils to convert. It is why I ship lots of belt feds into CA like $10,000 M249 collectors and M240's.

It is also why I am so backed up all the time. I'm far from perfect but I am doing the best I can to get as many orders out as possible while still maintaining quality. It is not even close to easy as my standards are extremely high. Just finding the right box for an order can take over 10 minutes because I want it sized to ship safely. Some shipments can take 2 hours to prep because I am shrink wrapping and securing guns and parts properly so nothing scratches the gun or other parts. I am sure many Calgunners can attest to the level of detail I put into shipments. It is nothing like what i get here and when a gun is sent here that is poorly shipped and scratched I send pictures and a detailed report of the condition to the buyer. A lot of the sellers have no problem taking your money and it is easy to blame the converter for damage so these steps have to be taken. It is at the point that guns are opened here in view of a security camera so any issues can be backed up by recorded footage. It is why I have yet to replace a gun in 4 years of conversions.

It's exactly DE guns and the CZ scorpion and we are being lambasted in a different thread about this. Follow up response on that page coming soon.

Some of these problems are clearly the buyer that does not have sense to do any due diligence and or familiarize themselves with the flow charts. Same group of dummies that post asking for advice or info about things that are location specific. Like i need an ffl and don't post their location. Or pick up ftf only and don't give even what county they are in. If I could i would close every one with no info. I got rid of my ffl because of paperwork headaches and the public.

The buyers don't know it's being shipped illegally. They think the seller is delivering a CA legal product.

This is probably why the other hundreds have not been turned away. Receiving dealers mistaking thinking the Scorpion/Bren cannot be fired without a stock attached or leaving it in the box altogether and not measuring OAL.

We always test mag locks for example to ensure they didn't forget to put one on.

Now, due to this thread when I get an inbound transfer order I know I need to ask more questions if it's coming from DE Guns before I accept it. Make the customer confirm that if their seller doesn't ship it CA legal it's going back or to PD to be destroyed.

Audiophl has already gone to bat with us on this issue. My problem is the boneheads chiming in on a legitimate question from the OP who don't understand the law or what they are talking about either. sigh. Maybe we should have just sent this over to PD probably would have been less time wasted doing that instead of returning it.
