FFLs beware! I just got of the phone with an out of state online vendor who shipped us a firearm that was not CA compliant. I called to get a return label sent to me so I can immediately return it today. He wanted to argue about it saying he had already shipped hundreds of these into CA the exact same configuration and I'm the first to complain about them. The issue has to do with overall length. The rifle comes in 24 inches an has a clip on stock to make it longer. It is fire-able at 24" and centerfire. I got my label on the way and its going back, but the gist of the conversation with this "manager" of the facility was that he'll just send it elsewhere, to my reply I don't care what he does with it. His reply was "just put the stock on yourself" it's simple. And it equated it with that's like shipping me an AK with a bullet button in the box with it and saying "well, just put the bullet button on yourself, its simple"
I know we are getting lots of new orders from online and a lot of new vendors are stepping into the foray of California sales, but we need to be diligent about these sort of things.
The purpose of my call to this vendor wasn't to argue with some manager there but to 1. get a label so I can return it at their expense not mine, and 2. politely educate them so they don't have a lot of returns for non-compliant firearms. What really gripes me is they charged the customer $70 to make the gun "CA Compliant" and only did half the job with the justification that "its easier to ship it that way"
Long story short they are sending me a return label and it will be going back, however, I just don't want you guys to get caught up with these things.
