[ANSWERED] Verifying Residency / Lease Agreements

Whenever an FFL is presented with a lease agreement as a form of verifying residency, is there any procedure to verify that the lease agreement is real?

The reason I'm asking has to do with privacy. I'm probably going to buy a gun soon and I don't believe it's any of my landlords business as long as my lease agreement is not being violated.

E.g. If I'm renting a room in a house. I may not want the FFL calling up my landlord saying, "Hi, I'm Jake from so and so gun store, your tenant is purchasing a gun and I need to verify that he lives at this address and that this is a valid contract between the both of you."

    ANSWER:
Some places require a notarized lease agreement; however, that is not a legal requirement.
FFL's need the document to submit to the DOJ.

Never heard of verification from the ffl standpoint . They have a copy of the notarized document the buyer provided. That is all the due diligence required. Stop being paranoid.

Do FFL's only accept a notarized lease agreement?

Being notarized is not a requirement, but have heard of FFL's asking for it to be notarized as a CYA against those who know it's an easy way to falsify their address

you can simply google CAR lease... California Association of Realtors

            Create your own lease....

It is better to update your info on the DMV website
Go to the DMV and get an official print out of your residential history and driving record for $5
Rule 1- ALL GUNS ARE ALWAYS LOADED

Rule 2 -NEVER LET THE MUZZLE COVER ANYTHING YOU ARE NOT PREPARED TO DESTROY (including your hands and legs)

Rule 3 -KEEP YOUR FINGER OFF THE TRIGGER UNTIL YOUR SIGHTS ARE ON THE TARGET

Rule 4 -BE SURE OF YOUR TARGET AND WHAT IS BEYOND IT

I don't believe a DMV print out would count for proving residency:
              D. Current, government-issued license, permit, or registration, other than a California Driver License or California Identification Card, that has a specified expiration date or period of validity. The license, permit, or registration must bear the individual's name and the individual's address as it appears on his or her California Driver License or California Identification Card.
For the CAR lease, is there something on their website you wanted me to look at?

If I created my own lease, wouldn't they be suspicious with my name as the Landlord and the Tenant?

If you want your fake "landlord" to commit perjury go ahead and forge the document. I'm not the one who will have to answer for the forged document if DOJ comes knocking.

I'm not sure why your landlord has to be involved though. Do you NOT have a copy of your lease agreement that you signed as a tenant?

I receive lease agreements all the time.

Funny thing Notary just confirms who the person is. They don't have to show proof that they are an actual landlord.. so all the notary would be doing is saying "Yes John Doe is John Doe as signed on document", etc... So a document could still be forged even with a notary.

Assuming you have sort of registration (vehicle, boat, trailer, handicap placard, etc..) you can update that and bring it in since it'll be government to satisfy feds and have dates of expiration to satisfy CA DOJ.

This doesn't happen as a requirement. This is one instance where CA DOJ presumes you are not lying when you produce the documents since you are a law abiding citizen.

However, I can't speak to over cautious stores that may do this on their own. Best you check with the store you purchase/transfer from ahead of time on their policy.

Bring your driver's license, a car registration, or utility bill, as long as it has your current address on it.

I couldn't imaging having time to call and verify a lease agreement. I think you are over thinking it. All we are concerned with is providing the documentation to the DOJ when we get audited.

Utility being attached to the house, not something like a cellphone bill, If I remember right as well.
