A&D question/ DROS for possible antique

Got a customer transfer today for a franchi side by side dated early 1900's/late 1800's no one including franchi can give accurate info on it but has no serial on the action or barrel only the removable forend.

    1. my question is since no one including franchi has a idea how old it is or what exact model it is what do i put for the serial and model number? and who would of been the importer of it back then?

    2. For DROS FSD could i just put Antique? (was thinking of just having him do a safe affidavit if he has one to deal with this one)

    3. haven't had one in over a year but is x98 Valid Hunting License - Exempt from Safe handling also?

I would put model "Side by Side" or something like that
Serial Number: NSN (which is accepted by DROS now)

If you're DROSing it then doesn't that mean it's not an Antique (pre 1898)? I would just do safe affidavit or lock to be sure

      Yes
Well its hard to determine exact date thats why we decided on DROSing it since no one including manufacture can give and exact date on it but it more than likely pre 1898 but can be for sure, but i will just have him do a safe affidavit on it. as far as manufacture/importer is it safe to say just franchi for manufacture since we don't know who the importer is?

yes - for all you know it was brought over before import marks were required. same thing you would do for war "bring backs" as well. if there's no importer marking it was likely brought over before those requirements existed.
