New procedure for Interstate Intrafamilial Transfers?

I know there are a million questions on how to do them. That is not my question. Mind you I have been doing them as directed. Firearm gets delivered to my FFL with a letter from my father stating that he is gifting me blah, blah, blah .45 acp. I do the DROS wait my 10 days, fill out my CA DOJ $19 form. My question however is something my FFL mentioned, that they may be doing them differently in the near future, where the FFL portion is no longer needed and all intrafamilial transfers can be done online. He said it's not as good as it sounds but rather an easier way to track the firearms coming into the state more closely. Anyone else hear anything similar?

    Thank you in advance.

You don't have to send in the Intra-familial form and pay $19 if the dealer DROS'd the firearm to you.

I believe the dealer is talking about DOJ's online reporting. Basically, you can now submit your FOR/NR/OL/IF/LEGR forms and pay by credit card online, via the attorney general website: oag.ca.gov/firearms

Reporting online does not change the fact that, if an intra-familial firearm is shipped into CA, it still needs to go through a dealer. The online process just takes the place of the paper process.

If I missed something and he's talking about something else completely, then I apolog....whatever.

That's what I thought since the Federal Law requires from state to state to go through the FFL, maybe he got his wires crossed, but when I asked him about the Federal Law, he still said that I no longer needed to come to him. I did tell him that I, just to be safe, rather do it the way we have been doing it.

As far as I know, there is nothing that is going to change the Federal law, which is the issue which requires it to go through a FFL.

The CA DOJ had given out bad information in the past. The BATF would be the one to ask regarding interstate transfers.
