What model name in a remarked rifle?

I have seen several conversion builds where guns are remarked to mimic the look of their machine gun counter parts (i.e. Heckler and Koch HK94 remarked to MP-5, or an SP89 pistol remarked to MP-5K, etc.) I am currently seeking an H&K "SL8 to G36" and am debating whether to buy an SL8 and farm it out for work, or to buy an already-converted gun. Whichever route I go, the gun will be already in CA, and be CA Compliant ("Raddlock + 10rd mag").

My question is, if I purchase a rifle that is already remarked, should I make sure the FFL enters it an SL8 or G36? And should I later be required to register it an an assault weapon the way the bills passing this month are going, should I register it as an SL8 or G36?

I woudl put what is on the gun. As that is what someone inspecting it is going to read. Some manufacturers remark the original model in a discreet place. I have seen RDTS do it and a couple others. So I would ask the builder.
