    Standard Capacity "gift certificate"

I have a collectable handgun which apparently has even more collectable standard capacity magazines (they sell for $100+ on GB). I want to sell it, but of course I cannot offer the mags for sale. If I give the mags to an FFL who is willing to hold and ship them for me, can I state that whomever buys the handgun will receive a gift certificate which can be redeemed for $20 or for up to two factory-issued magazines from a specific dealer?

I don't believe that I am offering a standard capacity magazine for sale, or am I?

Why don't you just block them to 10 rounds if the sale is in CA?

The law is badly written and only says that you can't offer them for sale, but in practice it seems that they only care if you offer them for sale in CA and don't care if you offer them for sale outside of CA.

You can just add that the magazines can not be sold in CA. You could also buy the new magazines and then separately sell the old magazines out of state.

There are no magazines being made for this firearm. The 18 round magazine alone sells for over $100 apiece. Blocking it would just ruin the value.

Nobody makes magazines for this gun so I can't get new ones.

The law as written seems to state that I can't offer for sale, no matter the destination - but you believe I'll be okay if I only ship outside the state?

Yes, or sell it to an LEO or other exempt person.

This. List it on gunbroker and sell it out of state is the easiest way.

+1 to blocking them without ruining them. If it's the gun I'm thinking of, Magblock already makes blocks for them.

You can ask the AC DOJ, but as i recall in the past they could care less if you sell it out of state and in fact I think that they like it since then it is outside of CA.

Haha, sorry brother, I have seen your posts and have the highest respect for you.

Collectibles are a different animal though. Example: I recently paid $100 for a nice original mag for an FN 1900. Mags are rare, the gun is even rarer.
If I altered the mags in any way they would be $20 mags instead of $100 mags.
That is a big money difference....at least to me.
