Need help on an interstate inter-familial transfer of a new gun

A mother wants a gun that is not on the CA roster, and her daughter wants to buy it for her. The mother lives in California, the daughter lives in Georgia. How does this work?

Can the daughter buy the gun from Cabela's or Gander Mountain, take possession of it and take it to a local FFL and ship it to her mother's FFL here in Californa? or...

Can the daughter purchase it from a dealer and have it shipped directly to her mother's FFL in California or...

Can the daughter purchase it, take possession and ship it directly to her mother who then sends in the inter-familial paperwork, along with the $19 to the CADOJ?

And before any of you say "Gee there's a search feature here, you should learn how to use it!" I did use it and just about had an aneurysm sorting through the all of the comments and arguments. Using the search feature on this site is similar to digging for a lost ring at the dump. You have to wade though a bunch of garbage until you come across some semblance of an answer (not always, but more often than not).

Thanks in advance for any light you can shed on this question.

This the right way. She (mom) should call her local FFL to see if they understand intRAfamilial interstate transfer.

ETA - selling FFL probably could handle this, so no need to go to a different one to ship.

General opinion is this does not work.

Absolutely not - Fedlaw requires the FFL.

And, the sticky in this forum - http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/s....php?t=1058641 - points you to the gory legal details.

Along these same lines, I have a question for someone who called today asking about this very thing.

Dad brought a (off-roster) gun to give to son who then sent in the inter-familial paperwork, along with the $19 to the CADOJ thinking this was the correct method for transferring the firearm.

Dad lives in Texas, son lives in Santa Monica.

They did their own research prior to completing the paperwork, but were told by another FFL that THAT was the wrong way to do it, so they called me for advice. told them I was not certain how to proceed, but that I would inquire.

What is the right way for them to go through the process of effecting the transfer legally now that dad is back in Texas and son wants to do the right thing and not be caught with a gun he acquired incorrectly?

            Oops.

            Can't un-ring that bell.

CA resident needs to talk to a lawyer.

Neither CA nor Federal law provide 'mulligans' for mistakes.
