    Rant

I'm trying to sell an off list revolver. I want to ship it. Have to convert it to sa...no problem.
Out of town guy wants it, but his FFL won't accept a DA to SA conversion..says it's illegal.
My rant: Why are ffl's allowed to do as they please? Why aren't they obligated to go by the rules?
I know they only do transfers because they have to, but still why are they allowed to pick and choose which ones they want to do?
    End of rant, maybe.

Lack of knowledge and fear of what they do not understand is rampant in the FFL community. Find another dealer.

It is outside the norm and not all FFLs are aware, like the single shot used to be. It is easy to be scared of unusual things.

Could be that they don't know about it and are uncomfortable on gambling their livelihood on it.

I'm that "out of town guy"..I just posted the question because I was not comfortable with the anser my FFL gave me...if you look at my post and the replies you will see that there seems to be a great deal of confusion on this so my FFL may have been "wrong" but so are many more...

Beyond that the shipping costs, the FFl's fees for receiving a shipped gun ($55) the normal Dros of $25 and the cost of returning the gun to it's original configuration (if I could get someone to do it) would be anywhere from $50 to $75 (1 hour gunsmith time at about $75 and hour) for a total added to the cost of $150 to $175 total added to the cost of the gun. That would take it out of the range of reality.

Again, I posted in the FFL forum to see what replies I'd get and the opinions were all over the map...sorry we could not make a deal but I've purchased another gun, locally with no extras...

These are consequences of one state law after another piled upon the gun owners. None of these ridiculous hoops that must be jumped through have reduced "gun crime", but they do serve to feed into the state money trough, all the while making the gun shop the forced, underpaid fee and tax collector, and bookkeeper for the state.

^^^^^ And the scapegoat when something goes wrong! I don't blame gun dealers for their reluctance. Riding the fine edge of justice for a customers desires is not always a fun trip. That being said, don't blame your dealer for his reluctance. It's his business to keep. . . . . . and your dollar to earn. . .

Part of the problem is that there is the Law, then there is how the CA DOJ views the law, which may conflict with the law. There are many examples of this. The 1 in 30 exemption for ALL handguns for those with a C&R FFL and COE is a prime example. It really does not matter if you "win" in the end since you won't get all your attorney costs back, so you lose.
