    Question about a PPT

    Hello,
I have looked up as much info on this subject as I could find and I am still little confused. My cousin just moved to CA and he brought 2 AR pistol lowers with him. From what we understand, he has 60 days to register these but the deadline is coming up soon and he does not have a CA driver's license or ID to put on the DOJ form. Should he fill it out anyway or wait until he has CA ID?

Second to transfer one of these to someone else, does he have to wait until after he registers them first?

He is going to be on an Oil Rig for the next 6 months and he wants to leave his stuff with me. Could I get in trouble for having them in my home?

    Thanks Everyone

If he leaves them with you the concensus is must be in locked safe/container that you do not have key/access to. Must be a pistol upper with them if a rifle upper is stored with them.

No, he does not have to register them first; transferring them is an option allowed instead of registering.

As edgerly notes, just leaving them with you looks like a transfer-without-benefit-of-FFL. The locked-with-no-access route seems to follow BATF advice on mailing a gun to yourself.

PPT would solve that - but if he does not have CA ID, that won't work.

Frozen in 2015, it is falling out of date and I can no longer edit the content. But much of it is still good!

Great answers everyone. Thanks for posting so quickly. I will make him get a CA ID and then PPT them to me since he has no use for them.
