Refusal to do a PPT of an AR pistol

    Hello,

Today I was at Bullseye in San Rafael and I was going to be on the receiving end of a PPT of an AR pistol. The owner said he would not to a PPT of an AR pistol because it resembles an SBR too much. Then I asked if we could just PPT the lower if it were stripped and he said NO again. His reason was that he could argue that the laser engraved "pistol" on the lower looks like it was not done at the factory because it looks different from the rest of the words and logos that are engraved in the lower. I told him that they all look like this and I even showed him a picture online from the PWS website. He still refused. Can he do this? Can he simply not do a PPT because he dimply does not want to?
    Thanks everyone

He has the right to refuse service to anyone. He doesn't have to sell or do anything for you. Is he wrong in his reasoning yes, but that's his business and his choice. Get over it and go to another ffl.

I am over it, I was just curious. Of course I will go to another FFL. I didn't post the question to get smart *** comments. IF you don't like what I have posted, then don't read it.

I didn't mean it as a smartass comment, I just meant to inform you that they have the right to do that and not to stress over it, just don't bother giving them anymore business. I apologize for coming off that way, I guess stuff doesn't always translate correctly over the net!

If the pistol is in a legal configuration a FFL is mandated by state law to do the PPT. I would file a complaint with Ca DOJ.

Being gay and not using protection is dangerous . Anyways has anyone ever seen a FFL get in trouble for refusing a PPT on an item they are not comfortable of the legality of? I think as long as they don't sell the item thwy are leery of DOJ probably won't care if you complain.

A FFL once refused the PPT of a Rossi 45LC/410 Circuit Judge with a rifled barrel to me. I could tell it was just a thinly veiled attempt to avoid doing a PPT by his demeanor and attitude. I went down the street and did PPT (which he even recommended) and I did not go back to this store for close to 2 years and spent 20-30k++ with his competitors in this timeframe.

Kind of funny how he was saying gun was illegal yet was telling me it was OK to PPT it down the street to avoid doing the PPT.

Oh ok. Sorry for taking it that way. As you can see with the other posts, people always seem to write dumb stuff so I tend to assume the worst. IT sucks because it is the only FFL close to me. I have done a lot of business with them in the past and was even going to buy another 1K of stuff today. But when he told me he would not do it, he then said "you can still buy everything else you wanted too." I laughed and walked out.

Thats is exactly what I though and said to the owner. I even said I would file a complaint if necessary. I just cannot find anything that talks about an FFL's legal obligations.
I am Still not sure if I want to file a complaint with the DOJ. Those guys are horrible...
