    Proof Of Residency From LEO

When we called DOJ to ask if LEO needed proof of residency on a handgun purchases they told us that they did not if their address is current on their ID.

    Is this correct?

For state LEO yeah. Not sure if it counts for Federal LEO.

What proof of residency are peace officers required to provide?
Peace officers, including reserve and retired peace officers, may present valid credentials issued by a California law enforcement agency in lieu of the other required residency documentation. This consideration is given to peace officers who do not want to provide documentation of their residential address for security reasons and who otherwise do not object to having their credentials copied by the firearms dealer for inclusion with the DROS record. Peace officers may have the dealer associate remove his/her residential address from the DROS transaction and include his/her agency address.

I am not entirely clear on this exemption for peace officers. Is this saying that peace officers don't have to put any residential address information on the forms? Which forms are we talking about?

Obviously peace officer still has to put residential info on the federal form 4473?

Why do they reference "removing" residential address and including agency address? Removing implies that the residential address was there to begin with. This rule seems to imply they don't have to provide residential address to begin with.

The DROS doesn't specifically ask for residential address, does it?

exactly. the officer's LEO ID covers his CA proof of residency, but he still needs to list his residence address on the 4473 and have a .gov-issued document that has his name and residence listed on it.

Do you want an AOW or C&R SBS/SBR in CA?
