When a FFL sends a handgun via USPS is he required to ask for an adult signature?

I wouldn't think so. Most gun stores aren't staffed by children. Unless your sending to a home FFL or something. I'd assume you are going to insure gun though and over a certain value it will require a signature. Also I'd not want a gun left at doorstep or something.

A 01 FFL can use the USPS to ship handguns.

No signature required, but the sender must file USPS form "PS 1508" with the postmaster for each mailing, and the recipient must be a licensee.

When shipping firearms, a signature should be required to ensure that they don't just leave the package. It seems that they upped the insurance amount which requires a signature to $500, which can be cheaper than just requesting a signature.
