250+ guns in collection, do we have to do Acquisition paperwork for every single one with the seller there or can we do 1 paper DROS with thumbprint and make copied and then enter all guns into Acquisition?

Even if we average 3 minutes per Acquisition that's over 13 hours of work for the person selling to sit through.

I would personally get the paper DROS signed/thumbprinted then enter everything into DES acquisition. Then print them all and get them signed/thumbprinted.

I don't see a way around getting every acquisition form signed and thumbprinted. I've done a 150 gun collection and it was a pain.

I guess it would just cut down on transfer paperwork in the long run. They are like a living will sort of say. I read an article in the Wall Street journal about it before. They are popular for nfa items especially.

Edit: it would be best to talk to a gun attorney or estate attorney for the details about it. That is if he is looking to sell as a whole collection.

This might be a dumb question... When exactly are we supposed to use the acquisition online form of DES?

I'm assuming consignment or buying a gun from a customer.

What about taking in shipments from private parties to transfer to a customer in a shipment and purchase they set up?

Example: guy wins auction on a melted KSG shotgun from a private party. Customer asks me if I would accept the delivery and I agree. Private party ships the gun to me directly. I receive the shotgun and transfer it to the customer via dealer long gun sale.

Was I supposed to use the acquisition form for this? Is the second hand dealers license required for this? Anything else I'm missing?

I am not sure that the acquisition paperwork is required when the person is outside of the area in which your business is located. For example, if the person is out of state, they would not have a CA ID.

If any of the firearms need to be transferred as a CA PPT, that would be an issue since you would need to have them sign a DROS worksheet, as well as going to your location (or a gunshow). This would only apply for handguns not on the certified list and not exempt.

As to the question above. when you take a firearm in for inventory, or in other words when you buy the firearm in order to sell it. You are not buying a firearm when you transfer it.

Sorry for my ignorance but what is the deal with the paper DROS in this situation? How does that help the situation since they would have to be ran through the FDAS and not the DROS?

If it is a handgun and is not exempt and not on the certified list, in order for a FFL to sell it on consignment you need to do it as a PPT. So, you need to have the seller fill out a DROS worksheet prior to submitting the DROS.

It is only part of the process and you still have to deal with the FDAS, unless you personally buy the firearms.
