firearm return to customer, a PPT ?

Customer drops off a mauser for PPT to his nephew. It gets logged into the A/D book. Long story short, the nephew changed his mind after some weeks and doesnt want the rifle. Does the rifle just get logged out back to the customer, no dros or does it get drosed back to him? It wasnt a consignment. Thanks

Unless it was for gunsmith work, you need to complete all of the paperwork in order to return it. It would not be a PPT. It is a return to owner.

Next time wait until both parties are there, make it easier.

Was a DROS worksheet filled out? It would be like a normal transfer since the DROS was not submitted.

No paperwork was ever started. The customer just brought it in unannounced and said his nephew would be contacting us and both of them would come and do the transfer.

I'm confused why the gun was left if they both were going to come back and do the PPT.

This is a strange situation. I personally wouldn't have accepted the firearm until both parties came in that way I know the deal is 100% good to go. I tell my PPT parties who come in that I will hold their firearm behind the counter for them until their buyer shows up. Our first rule here is always get the firearms from customers as soon as they walk in, make sure its clear, and then put it behind our counter. (We get lots of pawns and buys, so not everyone coming in is just a PPT, and yes we get our fair share of loaded guns)

But what's even more annoying about the OP's situation Condor is that basically you're having to do extra work and make a minimal fee.

Either you have both parties come in at the same time or you have the first person fill out a DROS worksheet if you are going to do a CA PPT.

You can accept a firearm and do it as a normal transfer, but then the fees are not limited and if the buyer is denied, you have to transfer it back to the seller like a normal transfer.

You can charge your normal transfer fee for the person to get the firearm back. You have to do the DROS and all the paperwork. I hope you have a policy regarding storage.
